Job Description
Provide assessment, counseling and mental health services to support the mental health and academic and life goals of students, with specific expertise working with student athletes. The position serves in both the Personal Counseling Center and in the Athletic Department. The psychologist will collaborate with the College's athletic administrators on the development and implementation of philosophies, policies, and procedures of counseling services for student-athletes in addition to complying with NCAA rules and regulations. This a full year position.


1.Provide assessment, counseling and crisis intervention services to students and student athletes dealing with mental health and developmental challenges. Work with campus and off-campus resources to provide coordinated support to students in need. Provide culturally appropriate individual and group counseling. Provide occasional scheduled after hours emergency on call coverage for the campus.

2.Direct the day-to-day operations relating to coordination of campus services, including coordinating treatment of students and student athletes with consulting psychiatrists, Sports Medicine Staff, Health Services, and off campus providers.

3.Provide consulting and outreach services to coaches, Certified Athletic Training staff, and other Athletic Department personnel regarding the psychological well-being of individual student-athletes and teams. Facilitate individual and group performance enhancement seminars for student-athletes and coaches.

4.Provide leadership in developing outreach strategies and educational programs, with a particular emphasis on the needs and experiences of student athletes that are consistent with the mission and outreach plan for the Personal Counseling Center. Build effective relationships with the larger College community to educate about PCC resources and offer informed advice regarding psychological and developmental issues; serve as a liaison to student athlete organizations. Provide expertise, leadership and services to the campus community regarding developmental factors, mental health issues, and dynamics related to performance-enhancement.


1.Maintain records and clinical information consistent with professional standards and PCC practices.

2.Serve on committees and provide a psychological perspective on relevant issues.

3.Coordinate treatment of students with consulting psychiatrists, Health Services, and off campus providers.

4.Perform all other duties as may be required.


  • Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited institution
  • Formal education and degree training in the specialization of sports psychology.
  • Graduate of an APA approved program and internship or demonstrated equivalent
  • Licensed or license eligible in the State of RI
  • Must possess knowledge of theory and application of organization design and assessment, human performance technology and assessment
  • Excellent counseling, crisis intervention, and communication skills
  • Experience working with student-athletes and larger Sports Medicine/Athletic Department staff
  • Highly skilled in working with a college population, including excellent cultural competence
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in developing outreach and prevention services
  • Experience in college mental health preferred
