Job Description We are seeking a creative scientist with a background in environmental microbiology to work on developing a high-throughput platform for the discovery of natural products. The focus will be on evaluating the diversity of environmental samples, growing, including uncultured microorganisms, and selective capture of desirable producers.

The successful applicant will join a team of talented researchers at the Antimicrobial Discovery Center. Several drug lead candidates came out of our lab - ADEP (Conlon et al., Nature 2013); teixobactin (Ling et al., Nature 2015); darobactin (Imai et al., Nature 2019; Hundeep et al., Nature 2021), hygromycin A (Leimer et al., Cell 2021). We recently developed a microfluidics-based platform for antibiotic discovery that identifies attractive hits prior to chemical characterization. In combination with the ability to grow uncultured bacteria (Ling et al., Nature 2015), this gives us a virtually unlimited access to untapped biodiversity. At our well-funded lab, you will find a friendly, supportive environment. We collaborate with experts in the Boston area (Harvard, The Broad Institute, Tufts) and with Universities around the world.
The appointment will be for a minimum of 2 years. Highly competitive salary commensurate with experience, and a package of benefits.

The campus is in a pleasant location in the heart of downtown Boston, in the Longwood Medical area, near restaurants, walking distance to Fenway park, the art Museum and the Symphony. Please e-mail a CV and names of 3 references to Dr. Kim Lewis , (Antimicrobial Discovery Center, Department of Biology, Northeastern University, 360 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115). Please do not forget to mention Bio Careers when applying.
