Responsible for providing language assistance for patients, families and visitors regarding medical procedures, complex discharges, and potentially litigable situations in order to provide accurate information and help resolve any issues or perceived problems.



- High School Diploma or GED required.


-Must have four years of experience in a patient service environment to include two years interpreting medical terminology.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

-May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for the experience requirements.


-Must possess or obtain Medical Interpreter National Certification (NBCMI or CCHI) within 18 months of employment.

-Employees in this job as of 05/01/2017 have until 11/01/2018 to complete the certification.

Skills or Special Abilities:

-Must successfully complete the Parkland Health & Hospital System language/medical terminology proficiency examination in English and a second language with a minimum score of 80% per section prior to employment.

-Must adhere to the Medical Interpreter Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice

-Must be able to speak, read and write both English and the second language.

-Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with patients, families, and hospital staff.

-Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

-Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of intermediate and advanced medical procedures and medical terminology.

-Must have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to serve patients, families, clinicians and physicians.

-Must be able to provide video and audio interpretation in Call Center environment

-Maintains acceptable productivity and quality standards as established by management to ensure the Call Center operates effectively and efficiently.

-Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of personal computers, software packages and standard office equipment.

-Must be able to solve problems within established policies and procedures.

-Must be able to successfully complete additional job related training when offered.

-Must be able to function in a team environment.
