Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field. or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ten years of increasingly responsible communications-related management or administration experience, including writing, media relations, social media content and a minimum of five years of supervisory responsibility.
Master's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field. Experience with at least five years supervisory experience.
Experience managing outside advertising and/or PR agencies. Crisis management experience. Experience with institution of higher education. Experience in digital marketing campaigns.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with social media content strategy development, execution and management. Outstanding writing skills.
Ability to identify and generate compelling content for distribution across a host of channels including: social media; publications; video; advertisements; news releases; web; and in-person events.
Ability to develop and align marketing and communications to an overarching strategic plan and reflect the core values of the institution.
Ability to serve as spokesperson for the organization in consultation with the Texas A&M University Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communication in College Station.
Ability to work well in a matrix environment to gain input from various stakeholders (colleges, faculty, staff, students, administration, former students, community, maritime thought leader organizations, etc.)
Ability to write speeches for senior executive leadership and facilitate opportunities for speaking engagements
Ability to provide leadership, advice and expertise at the executive level for campus Marketing and Communication.
Strong technical abilities across multiple communication capabilities.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skill. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Proven ability to lead teams through complex requirements of matrix environments.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to be an integral part of the executive Incident Command Team. Event response in coordination with Senior VP of Marketing and Communication at Texas A&M University
Ability to align the marketing communication plan of the Galveston Campus with that of the entire university (TAMU) and serve as a high-level brand manager with authority to enforce it at the executive level.
Ability to develop and lead an innovative marketing and communications (MARCOM) plan for the campus to support and enhance our mission of being the number one public institution for marine and maritime studies in developing future leaders and selfless servants.
Ability to demonstrate development and management skills; knowledge of social media marketing protocols; knowledge of TAMU communications protocols, policies and procedures; knowledge of media law; video production, multimedia and podcast development skills; speech writing ability.
Demonstrate ability to support crisis management.
20%: Leadership and Supervision of MarCom Team
Leads campus marketing and communications staff and serves as chief creative director. Manages entire marketing and communication team, which includes 4-5 direct reports and contributing personnel from other campus organizations; Assigns workflow and responds to priority of COO office, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Maritime Academy. Directs creation of the budget and oversees expenditures and other fiscal functions for MarComm. Participates in annual campus budget planning as a member of the Executive Team.
20% Strategic Communications Planning
Advises COO on communication-related opportunities and reputation and recommends plans of action; assigns, oversees and consults on tasks undertaken by communications support staff; coordinates maintenance of TAMUG Web site; supports marketing and communication needs of Academic Affairs (recruiting, departmental websites and promotional materials, news stories, etc); chairs TAMUG's MARCOM committee and sits on TAMUG's Executive Committee; participates in relevant TAMUG meetings; represents TAMUG in official capacities. Liaises with Texas A&M University at College Station campus. Serves as the spokesperson for the campus and responds to media inquiries.
20% Content Creation, Production and Oversight
Formulates, implements, and enforces on-going communications plan, policies, procedures; manages the TAMUG brand. Develops ideas, researches and collects promotional and support information for TAMUG programs, special projects and events, researches initiatives, faculty and student activities. Engages in and/or directs the planning, writing, editing, photographing, designing, development, production and dissemination of news releases, scripts, factsheets, presentations, reports, flyers, brochures, posters, print and electronic newsletters, magazines, multimedia presentations, TAMUG Web site, podcasts, videos and other communications collateral promoting and supporting TAMUG; develops and manages communication and marketing of special projects and events.
20% Facilitate Faculty Communications Initiatives
Assists departments and faculty with communication-related initiatives. Arranges news coverage, photography, etc.; provides guidance and consultation as needed on publication, multimedia and Web projects. Collaborates with TAMU College Station "Experts" website to pitch and facilitate opportunities for faculty experts and the Chief Operations Officer.
10% Media Relations
Proactive outreach to media for opportunities to enhance awareness and reputation of TAMUG. Create and maintain contact lists of reporters and to reach out when opportunities present themselves for coverage; collaborate with TAMU College Station, TAMU System and other TAMUG persons involved in media outreach and response. Field queries. Facilitate media training opportunities.
Track, verify, review and approve all expenditures related to programs and initiatives in the communication office and document / file related paperwork with TAMUG business office and related departments.
