Digital Media Designer

The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) is the center for teaching excellence and innovation at Georgetown University. CNDLS staff members, in addition to faculty and graduate affiliates, are engaged in advanced research on teaching practices, assessment techniques, instructional and learning design, media development, and technologies to enhance student learning. Whether rethinking course design, assessing curricula, or creating a dynamic digital archive, CNDLS works to align teaching practices with student engagement and learning. CNDLS is an integral part of Georgetown's efforts to rethink the Future(s) of Higher Education and the Center has recently developed Georgetown's new Master of Arts in Learning and Design , a program at the cutting edge of the future of innovations in teaching and learning in higher education.

CNDLS seeks a Digital Media Designer to create fresh, communicative designs that advance the center's teaching and learning mission. Employing strong visual design skills and creativity, the Digital Media Designer will work with project teams comprised of colleagues and faculty to envision, propose, and assist in executing fresh, attractive designs for the web and online courses. He or she will ask probing questions to understand a project's ethos, prepare multiple concepts for feedback, pitch designs and articulate reasons for design decisions, respond inventively and thoughtfully to feedback, and work closely with web development, media production, and learning design colleagues. The Digital Media Designer should bring to the table a commitment to active listening, a tactful interpersonal style, and the ability to respectfully and persuasively argue for best practices in design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or Film/Media Production.
  • 3 years of experience in graphic, web, or interaction design.
  • A strong visual design style & sensibility, including an attention to typography, color, and branding.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Sketch.
  • Ability to approach design challenges from a problem-solving perspective.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of design and UI/UX/layout strategy.
  • Practical understanding of the principles and practices of responsive design and web accessibility.
  • Proficiency with HTML and CSS.
  • Exposure to motion design and/or animation.
  • Familiarity with prototyping tools (such as Balsamiq and/or Invision).

  • Strong written/oral communication skills and ability to convey ideas clearly
  • Ability to listen to feedback and rapidly iterate on design ideas from others
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with different deadlines and priority levels
