Lab Manager - Department of Psychology, Georgetown College

The Georgetown's Department of Psycholog y, Digital Health and Happiness Lab - Lying at the intersection between digital technology, happiness, and health, the research. The DHH Lab is designed to answer basic scientific questions about the role of digital technology in health and well-being with both theoretical and applied implications. Methodologically, our research aims to elucidate psychological processes as they occur in the field and people's regular daily lives, thus relying heavily on monitoring behavior and health in real time and relying on large survey data and Big Data analysis, while employing advanced statistical approaches such as machine learning and multilevel modeling. Researchers in the lab also aim to develop interventions to increase happiness and improve health through targeted modifications to people's digital behavior. Through these statistical and experimental approaches, the lab thus aims to elucidate the psychological processes behind human health, happiness, and flourishing in the modern digitized human environment.

Dr. Kushlev's Digital Health and Happiness Lab is seeking a motivated, organized, and conscientious candidate for a part-time position as a Lab Manager. The lab manager will work closely with Dr. Kushlev to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory. Under the supervision of Dr. Kostadin Kushlev, the Lab Manager will collaborate with research assistants in the lab, recruiting participants, and working with departmental staff. The work performed by this position will function to enhance the performance and operation of the laboratory, ultimately aiding in the development of innovative discovery and augmenting the profile of Georgetown's Psychology Department. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducts and assists in research.
  • Manages lab equipment.
  • Coordinates lab events.
  • Oversees finances and grant proposals.
  • Manages digital communications.


Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum commitment of 12 hours per week
  • Strong managerial and self-management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in data processing, web design, and/or programming
  • Eagerness to participate in a wide range of intellectual tasks under the guidance of research faculty/staff
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and master new tasks as necessary for the smooth operation of the lab
  • Interest in research and in the psychology of technology, happiness, and social life
  • Interest in the position in view of current professional goals and future career aspirations
  • Strong professional references able to speak to the candidate's managerial, organizational, and interpersonal skills

This is a part-time term greater than six months position.
