Discovery Ambassador - Office of Advancement

The Discovery Ambassador serves as a member of the Discovery Initiative Team, which focuses on the identification, cultivation, and engagement of Georgetown University alumni around the country. S/he plays a key role in identifying the expressed and perceived interests that alumni have in Georgetown, and contributes to the fundraising and alumni relation efforts of the University; and in developing a more engaged and qualified prospect pool of volunteers and donors for Georgetown. Reporting to the Director, Class Programs & Reunion Campaigns (CPRC), the Discovery Ambassador has duties that include but are not limited to:

Discovery and Engagement

Visits 35 alumni per month and conducts one-hour interviews with each alumnus/alumnae with the goal of discovering their interests and passions relating to Georgetown - meeting with and engages alumni in a discussion about their experience while at Georgetown; seeking to understand their current interests in various areas, projects, initiatives; gauging their interest in becoming more involved with Georgetown as a volunteer; and assessing their philanthropic inclination towards making a gift to Georgetown.

Prospect and Engagement Flow

  • Makes recommendations about prospect flow - ensuring that the alumni interviewed by this position are then engaged in the appropriate OA or Georgetown constituent area.
  • Refers prospects to staff members on the Regional, CPRC, major gift teams, and other engagement units in the alumni relations area.

Administration Reporting

  • Enters contact data following interviews, ensuring quality and accuracy of reports.
  • Coordinates travel schedule with the Senior Director to ensure that each trip produces a large number of quality interviews.
  • Coordinates appointments alumni in assigned regions.
  • Manages a travel budget.

Additional Program Support

Plays a role in the recruitment and training for student interviewers at occasional points during the academic year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Recent graduation from Georgetown University
  • Availability and willingness to travel extensively - 7 to10 consecutive days a month
  • Desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of Georgetown University
  • Strong sense of customer service
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Superior organizational skills and time management
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at once with minimal supervision
