Job Description

Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) invites applications for the tenured position of full professor and chair of the Department of Teacher Education and Certification, to begin in August 2019. The department chair holds an 11-month appointment and reports directly to the dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business. This search is taking place at an exciting time of rapid growth for the department, which currently enrolls approximately one hundred students across nine academic disciplines. The successful candidate for this position will play a major role in the further growth and development of the department; thus, he or she must demonstrate an active record of scholarship in a subfield of education and the ability to balance excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service with strong communication and collaborative leadership skills.

The Department of Teacher Education and Certification at Missouri S&T includes programs that prepare undergraduates to pursue both elementary and secondary teaching certificates. The chair is responsible for managing the department's academic, personnel, and budgetary functions; cultivating strong ties to Missouri elementary schools, high schools, and state education agencies; and maintaining S&T's strong partnership with Project Lead the Way. In addition, the chair also typically teaches one course per semester in his or her area of expertise to undergraduates pursuing their teacher certification. As the department does not grant bachelor's degrees, the chair will be expected to collaborate constructively with faculty from other departments, including but not limited to English, history, psychological science, economics, biological sciences, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and multidisciplinary studies. More information about the department is available at .

1. An earned doctorate in education or a closely related discipline;

2. An outstanding record of teaching and scholarship that would merit appointment as a full professor;

3. Experience as a department chair, associate department chair, program director, or in a similar leadership role;

4. Experience managing budgets;

5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive, productive relationships among faculty, staff, and academic leaders from a range of disciplines; and,

6. Evidence of success in developing constructive relations with education agencies outside of the university.

Interested candidates should electronically submit an application consisting of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and research and teaching statements to the Missouri University of Science and Technology's Human Resources Office at . Review of applications will begin November 12, 2018. Specific questions about the position can be addressed to Kate Drowne at (see application details) .
