Environmental Manager

Lewis Davey is thrilled to be working with a leading organisation that operates in construction, property and development across the UK and UAE. Lewis Davey is recruiting for an Environmental Manager to ensure the effective implementation of the Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and ensure the successful management of the environmental impacts and aspects of projects throughout a business. Working within the fast-paced construction sector being able to be reactive when required but with proactive delivery of the EMS. This is an opportunity to lead on major projects and drive the implementation of the EMS across a large construction company. Our client's core markets include commercial offices, mixed-use buildings, retail, education, distribution + logistics and many more.

Role

· Improving environment performance and compliance across the business.

· Support project teams in project set up regarding; noise, air, vibration, ecology, water course and pollution compliance.

· Be responsible for ensuring that the business has in place an EMS compliant with ISO14001

· Ensuring the implementation of policies, strategies, procedures, and systems through regular audits and identify areas for improvement and that appropriate corrective and preventative actions are identified and managed to completion.

· Aid pre-construction teams in bid delivery, managing external consultants on pieces of work.

· Ensuring that resources are in place to support the business in improving environmental performance.

· Setting targets, implementing systems to measure and monitor indicators and communicate to Regional Management.

· Ensuring that environmental legislation changes are implemented and communicated through the business.

· Linking environmental performance with business needs/performance.

· Incident and emergency management - ensuring that our business obligations eg. to report to regulars, are fulfilled.

· Assessing, analysing and collating environmental performance data and reporting information to internal staff, clients and regulatory bodies, as required and including CR.

· Liaise with regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency, as required.

· Working in conjunction with the SHEQ Team and provide training where necessary.

· Working with the SHE Training Department to ensure that Environmental training needs identified are effectively delivered and monitored.

· Will be required to audit and aid projects across the country

What you'll need to succeed

· Proven success as a lead in Environmental Management and delivery in a multi-site blue collar environment, ideally construction.

· Thorough knowledge of Environmental legislation and ISO accreditations, with the ability to translate these into robust and effective policies and systems of work.

· Excellent communicator at all levels and leads projects from the front

· Proven success as both a direct manager of teams and as functional leader.

· Strong focus on colleagues and customers

· Ability to adapt to change within a fast-moving environment

· Willing to take ownership and be accountable

· Proactive

· Able to "think and do" and to plan, prioritise and deliver.

· Flexible and adaptable but does the right thing

Qualifications

· Educated to bachelor's degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline, e.g. environmental studies or sustainable development.

· Practitioner Membership of IEMA (PIEMA) (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment)

· ISO14001 Auditor Training

· CSCS Card

· Educated to master's degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline (desirable)

· Full Member of the IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) (desirable)
