Project Manager - Sustainability, Private Capital

Lewis Davey is delighted to be supporting private equity firm EQT as they look to expand their ESG team within their Private Capital team. We're looking for someone who can operationalise the sustainability strategy working with deal teams on ESG Due Diligence and the Portfolio Companies. This is a one year fixed term contract.

EQT's purpose it to future-proof businesses and make a positive impact. EQT wants to ensure that it accelerates and transforms the sustainability and diversity performance and the sustainability value creation of every investment during our ownership period. This new role is being created as part of the Private Capital Sustainability team to support in driving this transformation.

The role is within the Private Capital business line (encompassing all the investment activities - Private Equity, Growth, Ventures, Future and Public Value). This role will be a foundational hire in the Private Capital Sustainability team's growth plan. The candidate will be required to advise as an ESG & Sustainability expert for portfolio company integration, provide research and execution support on diligence and most immediately, coordinate the roll out of the climate action plan. This role will report into the Private Capital Sustainability Leadership team with more details on day-to-day and activity-based management execution to come. This role will be based in London at present time.

Key stakeholder interactions: Work closely with the Private Capital Sustainability team, Group Sustainability team, ESG Data Controller, Deal Teams, Sustainability Ambassadors, Portfolio Company PoC's, External consultants appointed by EQT, Digital team, and occasionally Infra and Exeter Sustainability Teams.


ESG & Sustainability Strategy Generalist - 35%

Join the Private Capital Sustainability team as a strong environment and social specialist, willing to jump into private capital and wider firm initiatives that support the wider EQT sustainability agenda. The following are areas that require direct support:

  1. Supporting the onboarding of new portfolio companies: designing power point decks, reporting orientation, and fulfilling ESG subject specific queries from the portfolio companies and Deal Teams
  2. Supporting the team in development of suite of new EQT Sustainability Playbooks and of the Value Creation Toolboxfor EQT portfolio companies in private capital, across Ventures, Growth, MM, Private Equity and Future
  3. Coordinate updates to the various sustainability templates, with inputs from various teams
  4. Support a "sustainability exit process" with research on current practices in sector and geography specific ESG requirements
  5. Support the delivery of specialized ESG & Sustainability curriculum and training for Deal Teams, Portfolio Companies

Sustainability Deal Team Management & Diligence Support - 35%

A continued part of joining the private capital sustainability team will be working closely with the deal teams to execute and support due diligence. In this capacity, the project manager will be required to support as required. Example activities that will be expected are below:

  1. Undertake sustainability research to advance the private capital sustainability team agenda. Topics may include sustainability themes, regulatory updates on ESG/Climate/DEI/ Biodiversity/Human Rights, company or sector specific ESG topics
  2. Explore and build on EQT knowledge of data and information platforms available in the markets
  3. Support research on material topics in the context of target companies for specific issues, to support Deal Teams during Due Diligence (NDC/XPIC), Full Potential Plan and Portfolio Performance Review to ensure purpose and high quality, high value sustainability considerations are integrated
  4. Knowledge management and information sharing acrossPrivate Capital, and across EQT

Coordinate Climate Action, Carbon Reduction and Renewable Energy Initiatives - 30%

Serve as a coordinator/main POC on behalf of the private capital sustainability team for the climate action roll out which includes project management, and third-party vendor management and continued interactions with EQT deal teams and portfolio company management. Outcomes for the implementation plan include:

  1. Completed execution of science-based carbon targets within Private Capital. This requires working closely with the Deal teams, the portfolio companies and outsourced providers to achieve this goal. This target requires EQT to accelerate and support all portfolio companies in the Future Fund, Private Equity and Mid-Market with the adoption of science-based carbon targets
  2. Completed execution of the 100% renewable electricity procurement target, and associated financing facilities, working closely with our outsourced providers
  3. Embedded climate action and carbon reduction into the full value creation process, from due diligence to PPR to exit, including supporting adoption of new value creation tools related to carbon pricing and climate transition risk
  4. Roll out of the ongoing programmes of carbon reduction and climate risk literacy for Deal Teams, portfolio companies and EQT Advisors
  5. Acting as the main POC and coordinator with external consultants for various work streams
  6. Creating a centre of excellence on climate action, carbon reduction and circularity within the Private Capital business line

Qualifications and Experience

  • Approximately 2-5 years' experience in sustainability advisory, data, reporting and project management.
  • Background/Exposure in environmental, climate, sustainability, economics, program management or experience in GHG accounting, climate related targets
  • Proficiency in business intelligence tools Power BI, MS Office Suite, Information Platforms (MSCI, Bloomberg, etc, would be a plus)
  • Past experience in sustainability program delivery, project management, data management, sustainability reporting
  • Exposure, in terms of overall activity understanding, to sustainability via work or academically
  • At least basic knowledge of ESG data and related reporting standards such as GRI, SASB, GHG Protocol for GHG emissions calculation, CDP, Science Based Targets and other climate reporting terms, Impact Reporting metrics
