First Illinois Systems, Inc. ( ), established in 1993, helps solve commercial pest problems in northeastern Illinois and northwestern Indiana. The company serves primarily regional hospitals, museums, and senior living centers, using integrated pest management (IPM). IPM focuses on prevention and non-pesticidal methods whenever possible to help clients become pest-free and remain good stewards of the environment. First Illinois Systems (FIS) is locally owned and operated and has an excellent history of staff retention.

Position description

The commercial I.P.M. technician responds to inquiries, inspects the client's facility, diagnoses and documents the problem, recommends a solution or treatment, carries through on the recommendation, records the findings, reports on them to the client, and educates clients' staff about how to avoid future pest problems. Each I.P.M. technician covers a specific geographic area and generally works independently, but staff sometimes work as a team, assisting one another.

Minimum requirements

  • Driver's license (preferably Illinois) and an excellent driving record
  • Well-maintained and insured personal vehicle that reflects the company's high standards and operates without difficulty
  • Housing within a 50-mile radius of clients in the territory of Chicago/Northeast IL
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, moving, and pushing equipment
  • Be able to communicate effectively with clients
  • Respect dress and behavior codes that reflect the Company's high standards
  • Complete work on time, including all necessary follow-up, such as reports and documentation

The most competitive candidates will

  • Bachelor's degree in biological, physical, life sciences, or equivalent; or two-year degree in science or biological course work
  • Be a licensed pesticide applicator (license can be acquired soon after hiring)
