Product Owner is required by highly successful and fast growing organisation. Based remotely with occasional travel to Wallingford (Oxfordshire). Basic salary £50-60,000 + excellent benefits.

The Product Owner is responsible for planning, leading, organizing and motivating agile project teams to achieve a high level of product delivery, performance and quality that provides exceptional business value. You will be operating in a fast-paced environment, across multiple business divisions and vendors, and will likely be responsible for managing several concurrent project or product development initiatives. You will be required to fulfil a number of responsibilities; blending traditional project management, product ownership and agile project management practices to achieve high quality results in a timely manner, whilst always retaining a clear view of commercials and overall business value.

Role and Responsibilities

Commercial Acumen

* Develop and maintain an in depth understanding of the Industry and the role that technology plays within this; supporting, driving and further enhancing the organisation's position as Thought Leaders within this space

* Develop and maintain strong relationships with Customers, 3rd Parties and Industry Associations to build an in-depth understanding of their needs through face to face customer contact

* Create, justify and deliver against commercial business cases for each product development project; identifying opportunities within the market and detailing proposed ROI in conjunction with project and product costs

* Constantly and consistently evaluate projects to ensure that they meet pre-defined business goals; monitoring the financial impact of any delay to delivery on the business, and devising mitigation strategies to deal with such situations

* Be a driving force for positive change throughout the business at both product and process level and be seen as an expert on customers, the market, and competitors

Product Ownership

* Liaising with different internal departments, customers and 3rd parties to define and deliver the future direction of their product line

* Manage products through their full lifecycle from inception through to end of life where the most commercially appropriate option.

* Maintain full ownership and responsibility for timely releases throughout the life of the product. In all scenarios, acute awareness and full ownership and accountability for the ROI of decisions made is crucial.

* Ensure the Agile process is well run by guiding and facilitating daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint demos and retrospectives. You will also work with scrum masters to ensure backlogs are maintained and estimated prior to Sprint Planning and hold teams accountable for their commitments, helping to remove roadblocks to their work and leveraging organizational resources to improve capacity for project work.

Project Management

* You will need to be able to apply both traditional and agile project management as required by the project at hand. As such, you will need to asses a project and apply the relevant project management methodology (waterfall, scrum, Kanban, alternative form of agile)

* Manage development initiatives with third party vendors and service providers to ensure they are commercially beneficial and meet the needs of the business.

* Ensure all business needs are accommodated with project scope by recording cross departmental requirements and pushing them into the relevant project plan and manage stakeholder expectations by ensuring they have full understanding of what will be delivered by a project.

* Define project scope and schedule for projects in order to deliver product evolution within designated project and commercial constraints

* Organize and lead project status and working meetings; prepare and distribute progress reports; manage risks and issues; correct deviations from plans; and perform delivery planning for assigned projects. Projects may consist of multiple development teams and require integration with other activities in other departments.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

* Solid understanding of software development life cycle models as well as expert knowledge of both Agile and traditional project management principles and practices and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment

* Flexibility: understand that business priorities change; able to adapt and move quickly to cater to this.

* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role with a proven, demonstrable track record of successfully implementing software or web development projects using an appropriate methodology.

* Be able to demonstrate the ability to analyse and document complex product requirements, mapping out feature sets, and producing detailed delivery plans.

* Experience of managing multi-function project teams including Developers, QA Engineers and Scrum Masters as well as the ability to each outside of the division to add to the project team.

* A solid technical background which enables you to lead planning sessions and a demonstrable ability to accurately and objectively evaluate complex project risks, issues and technical solutions.

* A natural communicator: excellent oral and written communications skills and experience interacting with both business and IT individuals at all levels including the executive level. Experiencing of creating and maintaining customer and cross divisional relationships.

* A creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the “big picture” view.

* Ability to make decisions based on complex and sometimes conflicting information.

* Outstanding time management and organisational skills.

* Experience of developing and presenting product roadmaps to senior stakeholders and managers.

* Any experience of project with a heavy UI / UX design component is a distinct advantage.

* Formal certification in project management such as Prince 2 an advantage as is any formally recognised certification in Agile Project Management.
