Harvard University Post-doctoral Fellow positions are available for Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Ph.D.'s interested to work on the "Top-down Synthesis of Biologically Inspired Chemically Operated Systems" in Dr. Juan Perez-Mercader's laboratory in Harvard's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and within Harvard University's Origins of Life Initiative. (ABD, all but dissertation, candidates may apply but will need the Ph.D. degree prior to start.)
We have several positions available for recent Ph.D.'s to become involved and carry out research doing experimental or computer modelling/phenomenology work on any of the following: (1) Polymer Chemistry and Self-assembly (e.g., PISA), (2) Non-biochemical but Chemically Induced Collective Phenomena, (3) Non-biochemical Self-replicating Chemical Systems, (4) Development of Chemical Computation, (5) Non-biochemical Adaptive Chemical Systems and (6) Life as we don't know it.
These fully funded positions will be initially awarded for one year and, contingent upon strong performance, may be renewed for up to two additional years. Those interested in applying are invited to send a copy of their CV, three letters of recommendation and a short statement of his or her scientific interests and description of their proposed work (limited to one page and specifically addressing only one of the six topics above) to Juan Perez-Mercader () with a copy to Jennifer Scala (). The three letters of recommendation must be from established researchers, including their current supervisor, and sent directly from the authors of the letters to Juan Perez-Mercader.
Decision on the awards will start to be made by February 28, 2022. The start of work date will be contingent on US Immigration status of the awardee and on applicable Harvard University COVID-19 restrictions.
Harvard University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, strongly encouraging applications from women and minority scientists, and offering competitive compensation and benefits.
Please don't forget to mention Bio Careers upon applying.
