Senior Sustainability Consultants

Role and Personal Specification

RS Standards is a multi-disciplinary consultancy with a 30-year reputation of delivering results for our international client base in over 20 countries. We offer three key support services across five key sectors.

Our clients, including Governments, Markets, Trade Associations, Manufacturers and Producers and Assurance Programs, choose RS Standards for our innovation, motivational drive and consistent delivery of results.

We are experiencing growth in our sustainability support services division, with support offered across the following three key areas/disciplines:

1. Responsible Plastic Management Services

2. Carbon and Waste Planning

3. Corporate Sustainability Strategy Development & Certified B Corporation

Due to this growing demand for technical and strategic consultancy support for our existing clients and looking ahead to business expansion, we are currently recruiting for enthusiastic, passionate sustainability practitioners to join our team in senior roles.

The roles will provide excellent career enhancement opportunities, with the successful candidate joining the company at an exciting time in its growth.

Senior Sustainability Consultants

You will be joining a team of senior consultants involved in developing, implementing and delivering policies, strategy, and action planning support across the business portfolio.

These portfolios include:

PLASTICS

o Supporting the design, development and implementation of responsible plastic management systems

o Completion of baseline plastic reviews to identify plastics aspects and associated key management information

o Identification of plastic improvement actions following the completion of significance evaluation of identified plastic aspects

o Completion of resource efficiency, circularity and waste management assessments with particular focus on plastics and identifying areas for improvement

CARBON and WASTE

o Completion of carbon emissions baseline reviews across all three emissions scopes, calculating carbon footprints, developing strategy, target setting (Net Zero, SBTi etc.) and action planning for carbon emissions reduction

o Completion of waste audits and assessments to assess legal compliance and opportunities to reduce costs and improve environmental performance

B CORP

o Completion of B Impact Assessments, multi-step verifications, assessment reviews and site reviews

o Development of policies, procedures and systems in compliance with the requirements of B Corp Certification

GENERAL

● Completing research to maintain subject matter expertise in the key support areas

● Ensuring client satisfaction and profitability across assigned accounts

● Contributing to the growth and success of new and existing clients, products and services

● Contributing to business development activities such as marketing communications, tender monitoring and preparation of submissions, developing project proposals/ bids and attending events as a representative of the company

● Planning and managing associate resource for project delivery

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential competences

Technical

● Undergraduate degree in an environmental, energy management or sustainability related discipline

● 5+ years environmental management and/ or sustainability experience working as a multi-disciplinary sustainability professional (not necessarily within a consultancy environment)

● Demonstrable experience in

o working with ISO 14001 environmental management systems- policy and procedure development, system design, enhancement and maintenance

o completing baseline environmental reviews, including environmental aspects identification and evaluation

o conducting waste and resource efficiency audits/ assessments to assess compliance with legislation and other requirements, identify opportunities to improve performance and identify cost reduction opportunities

o developing CSR/ ESG/ Sustainability policy and strategy

o calculating carbon emissions baselines/ footprints and completing assessments to identify carbon emissions reduction opportunities

● Advanced Excel skills (database development and data interrogation)

Personal

● Ambitious and self-driven/ self-starter

● Multi-tasker with the ability to run several projects at the one time

● Confident and competent with a strong self-image

● An effective and approachable communicator at all organisational levels, with excellent report writing skills and strong data interrogation skills

● Practical/ common sense approach to solving client issues and concerns

● Ability to work as part of a small team, and adaptable to the range of client environments

● Demonstrate a desire for continual improvement, keeping up to date with regulation, trends and best practice of the industry

● Driving licence and own car

● Prepared for regular travel throughout the UK & Ireland and internationally on occasion visiting client sites to complete sustainability project support, often involving overnight or extended stays

Desirable Features and competences

● Experience in/ knowledge of

o the Science Based Targets initiative

o Scope 3 carbon emissions calculation

o sustainable procurement practices particularly in relation to supplier engagement to improve supply chain performance

o the circular economy, in particular within the plastics sector/ discipline

o Waste management

o Energy auditing and management systems e.g. ISO 50001

● Member of a relevant professional body e.g. IEMA, Energy Institute

● Chartered Environmental/ Energy professional

● B Corp Leader trained

● Experience in supporting the growth of a business

The successful candidates will become an integral part of the company. These are primarily full-time positions (though consideration will be given to those seeking part time roles) within a dynamic and fast paced business working in global markets and delivering high quality services to an expanding list of clients. The successful candidates will be joining a team of highly motivated, ideas driven professionals that take pride in delivering high end, strategic and technical services and reports.

The roles will be home based initially, with potential for a hybrid model of home/ office based in future, along with the need to visit client sites and to also provide on-site embedded, contracted support on an occasional basis.
