The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of new product designs / technologies throughout its life cycle, from initial concept and identification of customer requirements through to final factory drawing, bill of materials, prototype and volume manufacture, updates and design improvements.
Your skills will include:
• Good mechanical design principles / knowledge and experience
• An understanding of the fundamentals of design for manufacture and assembly
• 2D and 3D component design using CAD (preferably Solidworks)
• Knowledge of component manufacturing processes and techniques
• Understanding electronic / mechanical manufacturing processes
• Working in diverse environments
• Planning and prioritising activities
• Understanding engineering, scientific and other technical information
• Competently using a computer and its applications (i.e. Excel, word etc)
• Making smart decisions considering Risk to company and customer
• Resolving problems in an efficient manner using Root cause analysis techniques
• Generating new artistic ideas for, marketing and website development, whilst implementing them into new product developments
• ISO13485 / ISO9001 Standards (Understanding)
• Risk Management / Usability Files (Understanding)
As a New Mechanical Design Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:
• Using Solid Works design software to develop designs / maintaining product records and changes
• Working closely with other members of the business to ensure that the customer requirements are achieved, in terms of delivery schedule, cost and quality
• Meeting company KPI targets for Engineering
• Providing accurate quotes to Sales for potential new business
• Flexibility and prompt analytical responses to production emergencies using Excel charts, databases and such like to provide visual support, solutions and actions needed when reporting to management
• Managing the entire lifecycle of your products from concept to manufacture, including additional support/upgrades after production
• Managing the Prototype sample assembly, evaluation, characterisation and testing processes
• Realising Lean manufacturing principles for New Product Engineering
• Implementing and Maintaining 5S principles in Engineering department and workshops
• Creating / Maintaining Manufacturing Process Documents
• Reporting product development lifecycle for New product engineering to Management team
• Identifying new product development opportunities and implementing them within the Design Factory process
