Position Summary

The IT Operations Manager's role is to plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of all computer and network systems to ensure the security and availability of the organization's IT Operations/infrastructure assets. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links. The IT Operations Manager will also schedule and direct the activities of a team of help desk and network technicians to resolve end user hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide his/her Operations team on issues that provide security, availability, value and efficiency to the IT Operations/infrastructure environment. This position is responsible for the direction and development of two direct reports (IT Help Desk and IT Network Technician).

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Schedule the processing of user requests and optimize available IT Operations resources (with an emphasis on On-time Completion, minimizing Lead Times and sustaining a high level of Quality and Customer Service, while supporting Strategy Deployment Priorities)
  • Continually improve employee productivity through internal activities (coaching & accountability), external activities (professional training) and IT Operations monitoring/management tools
  • Accomplish IT operations human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures
  • Achieve IT operations operational objectives by maintaining current system; evaluating, recommending, testing and installing new technology; contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change
  • Meet IT operations financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Determine IT operations service requirements by analysing needs of users/departments; prioritizing modifications to core system applications; resolves organizational conflict; developing and implementing documentation requirements for problem resolution
  • Provide information by collecting, analysing, and summarizing data and trends in new technologies for storage architecture, capacity, and response time
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Assure compliance with all Internal Control policies and procedures related to IT Operations

Qualifications and Competencies

  • B.S. degree in IT Management or Business Administration with an emphasis in Operations/Infrastructure or equivalent work experience.
  • At least one of the following Technical certifications required: Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Professional, Cisco Certified Five to seven years of experience in an information technology related field
  • Experience implementing and maintaining IT Operations solutions (Change management process, enterprise backups/disaster recovery, enterprise storage solution, data center management, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and project management skills
  • Good management skills, including the ability to maximize productivity
  • Ability to manage the intellectual capital development of direct reports
  • Knowledge of iSeries commands and operations
  • Network Associate (CCNA) and Security+
