The role of the Engineering Manager focuses on the technical aspects of construction. The Engineering Manager maintains a position of independence from the delivery team, to provide independent judgment, and to intervene if necessary to stop works for a significant change to construction methodology, sequence, temporary works or impact on permanent works, or if excessive ground movements are indicated.
Each Engineering Manager will be responsible for a particular section of the project and will report to their Area Engineering Lead. For this position the focus will be on structures.

Design Integration and Change Control
* Taking an overview of the permanent works design and where the design and construction team require input / advice then provide this. * Managing the interface between Temporary Works and Permanent Works design, including review of method statements and construction sequences to ensure full integration. * Management of the interface between construction and design during the construction phase: review of key RFIs from construction to design, approval of proposed change to design following the Field Change process (as part of the management and control of change) and approval of any NCRs raised, including implementing measures to avoid similar non-conformances in future. * Identifying any changes during construction that could have an impact on either the temporary works design or permanent works design and control of that change including where it affects the CAT 3 checking of the designs. * Oversight of temporary works planning, coordination, design, installation, use and removal including review and approval of significant temporary works: their design and method statements. * Take an overview of the construction methodology and provide input to the delivery team where required. * Ensure that the design assumptions are understood, and control measures implemented in the construction methodology and delivery of the works.Quality & Assurance
* Provide a regular presence onsite ensuring the works are being constructed in accordance with best practice. Where improvements are required ensure any changes are implemented and embedded within the relevant teams. * Oversight of materials testing; ensuring the correct tests are being undertaken in a timely manner for a particular section of the project, ensuring the results of testing are communicated. * Oversight of the production, review, approval and implementation of ITPs, which are produced by the construction team in accordance with the processes managed by the Quality team. * Oversight of the construction and technical assurance processes, which is undertaken by the construction team in accordance with the processes managed by the Quality and Assurance teams. * Oversight of the materials approvals process providing input and support when required. * Oversight of the handover process from construction to the client or other contracts, including H&S File production and risk registers. * Oversight of survey control, ensuring that the survey team is providing appropriate control stations, spot-checks and training to the construction team. * Oversight of instrumentation and monitoring, ensuring that the construction team is provided with appropriate data, and the required daily and weekly reviews are suitably conducted and adequately recorded.The Ideal Candidate
* Chartered member of the ICE or equivalent (essential) * Civil or Structural Engineering Degree * Engineering, Design or Senior Delivery team experience (essential) * Construction experience particularly in earthworks and reinforced concrete / steelwork structures, and an understanding of the dynamic soil / structure interaction that exists between them (essential) * Temporary works experience (essential) * Network Rail experience (desirable)About The Company

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
