Technical Support Engineer - Renewable & Low Carbon Heat

(Graduate/Trainee)


This new role is intended to strengthen our client's capabilities in the specification of low carbon solutions for domestic applications.


You'll have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the business, growing the knowledge base of renewables applications in terms of appropriate design, technical specification, R&D, sales, microgeneration certification, and attending events that keep your market understanding up-to-date.


Your role will include:

  • Creating detailed and accurate system designs using data supplied from home surveyors, who conduct heat loss assessments and capture system specification for technologies such as air source heat pumps and hot water cylinder replacements.
  • Producing robust mechanical installation schematics and plans that are MCS compliant and support installation of these technologies.
  • Working with supply chain to review, approve and challenge 3rd party specifications and solutions on behalf of our customers.
  • Working with our Quality Assurance team to develop the internal quality management and technical processes and standards to ensure a consistent high level of service is delivered to our customers.


You will need (must-haves):

  • Mechanical & engineering qualifications: Ideally a degree in engineering ideally with renewable energy as part of the syllabus is preferable, or a time served individual through a recognised apprenticeship programme. Minimum HNC.
  • Knowledge of domestic heating design standards and legislations.
  • Experience with equipment sizing such as air source heat pumps, hot water cylinders, pipework, control valves, pressurisation systems as examples and in line with industry recognised standards (CIBSE).
  • 2D CAD for basic mechanical design.
  • Capability to review and challenge 3rd party external heat loss reports and designs.
  • Strong organisation skills, showing ability to manage multiple projects.
  • To show evidence of continuous improvement measures that develop processes.
  • A meticulous and determined problem solver.
  • Self-motivated and able to use own initiative.
  • Ability to be flexible and proactive in a continuously evolving business.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.


Preference will go to candidates who bring:

  • Mechanical background knowledge and basic electrical competency levels.
  • Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) qualified.
  • On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor (OCDEA) qualified.
  • BPEC Energy Efficiency Part L.
  • Experience of domestic building heat loss assessments, commercial buildings.
  • MCS accreditation knowledge.
  • Experience in a customer-facing environment.


This is a full-time and permanent role. Candidates must be eligible to work in UK and hold a UK driving license.
