Fixed term contract until 8th March 2023
£17,375 - £18,750 per annum (depending on experience)
Dereham, Norfolk

The Reserves Assistant - Woods and Heaths post presents the opportunity to work on some of the county's most important wildlife sites and enhance valuable skills in the development of nature reserves and their visitors. The post holder will be based at our client's Reserve near Dereham, you will also work at other managed sites within the South, Central and North areas of Norfolk.

Most of the woodland nature reserves are ancient woodland, and include some of the best examples of bluebell woods in the county. The other sites are home to important species such as Norfolk flapwort, nightjar, woodlark, silver studded blue butterfly, and marsh gentian.

The successful candidate will have a good basic knowledge of wildlife conservation and habitat management techniques. Good communication skills are essential, both with colleagues and members of the public, as is the ability to work as part of a team in managing these important sites. The successful candidate will have some experience of working on a nature reserve or similar environment, in a practical role. Experience and/or training in use of tractors and chainsaws, livestock handling, brushcutter, ATV, pesticide use, relevant tractor related implements and first aid would be an advantage, however training will be available.

Staff benefits include 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing by one day per year up to a maximum of 30 days. The charity also have an 8% employer contribution rate (with a minimum of 2% employee contribution) with their Aviva pension scheme. They have an Employee Assistance Programme and operate learning days for all staff.
