Technical Consultant (Infrastructure) - 3rd Line Support

About you

The successful candidate will have sound Infrastructure support experience in a 3rd Line position (Windows Servers Systems, Active Directory administration and Microsoft SCCM administration). VMWare experience is also required alongside an understanding of configuration of WAN, LAN and VPN technologies.

Any of the following would also be an advantage:

  • VMWare Distributed Switch Installation, configuration and management
  • Linux experience (CentOS/Red Hat)
  • Brocade Fiber Switching Administration
  • Knowledge of Storage Technologies
  • Disaster Recover practices and implementation
  • Powershell/Scripting

About the role

The Technical Consultant - Infrastructure is a senior technical role within the IT Operations Support Division and will mean working within a wider team of around 15 IT specialists within the Infrastructure and Networks team. You will be part of the team responsible for delivery of high availability infrastructure services for both internal and external customers. You will also work closely with the technical and leadership teams in order to deliver and support infrastructure solutions that meet customer needs which are in keeping with corporate behaviours across the organisation.

You will be part of the business's strategic vision for the infrastructure platform as they move from traditional on-premise solutions to a hybrid cloud landscape. This is a key technical role and requires analytical problem solving skills and the ability, at times, to work under pressure.

The successful Technical Consultant will accept that, due to the nature of the role and the work involved, flexible working is required - the business currently operates 7.00am to 7.00pm working day and you will work a 7.5 hour day between these times. Following your successful probationary period you will be eligible to join a paid on call rota with an average of 1 in 4 weeks on call. In return you will receive a standby uplift to your salary plus an enhanced hourly rate for any overtime required).

In return you will receive a salary of between £40,000 and £45.000, call-out allowance/overtime payment, profit related bonus scheme, 24 days annual leave (rising to a maximum of 30) and life assurance of four times your salary. On completion of the probationary period you can join the group pension plan and obtain up to a 6% match contribution into your pension plan. Access to private medical cover is also available and a flexible benefits scheme can also be enjoyed.

This role can be based remotely on a daily basis but candidates must live within a reasonable distance of Newport as attendance in the office could be required at short notice.
