Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Job Location: Cramlington

Salary: £20,000 - £23,000 per annum

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist to join our Specialist Team at Cramlington. This is a varied role covering microbiological food testing (food and non-food) and molecular testing.

Key Accountabilities;

* Sample registration: receiving samples,

* Test set-up according to set procedures and methods: routine microbiology and molecular (sequencing/PCR) etc..

* Recording, analysing and interpreting data

* Quality Assurance and record keeping

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you’ll need experience of practical microbiology or a related science subject.

In addition to the above you’ll also need to demonstrate the following;

Essential

* Ability to undertake molecular microbiology with minimal supervision

* Ability to deliver experimental work to a consistently high and reproducible standard

* knowledge of food microbiology and laboratory-based practical experience

* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually.

* Good planning and organising skills.

* Flexible attitude to working hours

* Strong honours degree in relevant subject

* Relevant experience in a similar role

Desirable

* Demonstrable experience PCR approaches and DNA sequence analysis

* Previous laboratory experience in commercial or University laboratory

* Appreciation of accreditation issues and procedures

* Strong interpersonal skills

* Confident and professional presentation skills

* Higher Degree qualification
