Role Overview: The Counsellors primary role will be to follow our First Contact Resolution model. This involves completing a thorough assessment, on our Strategies for Success (SfS) document ideally to try and use a solution focused model and help the student to resolve their issues as best as possible in the first meeting.

First contact resolution (assessments) are commonly 1 hour to 1.5 hours in length a the form is typed on while meeting the student which is then uploaded onto the university system and sent to the student for their own use.

Sometimes a follow up appointment is needed after the first meeting, this is usually with the same assessor for 10-30 minutes to check that the student has engaged in whatever is needed. If a student is referred to a Counsellor or Mental Health Advisor then a robust reason/goal must be set, as the aim is to support the student in completing their degree.
