IT Infrastructure Manager

The IT Infrastructure Manager is a technical hands-on, predominantly office-based role primarily responsible for:

  • the support, maintenance and monitoring of existing systems and infrastructure with an eye on performance, availability, capacity, security, and business demand
  • the planning, design, build and deployment of new and replacement infrastructure and systems according to industry best practice and business objectives

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage, administer, and support the Back Office systems and infrastructure on premises and in cloud-based environments
  • Scope, plan and manage the implementation of new and existing IT solutions ensuring that downtime is minimised, effective testing is conducted prior to any change, and the change is documented and subsequently monitored for effectiveness after implementation
  • Implement effective monitoring across the entire technical estate, actively monitor it and react to the information that is provided
  • Execute periodic Disaster Recovery testing according to DR plan documentation
  • Conduct testing and analysis of all components of network and server infrastructure on a regular basis
  • Gather, understand, and document detailed business requirements using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Support the IT Security function and ensure all IT security standards are implemented appropriately
  • Carry out and document internal audits to satisfy ISO compliance and contractual requirements
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the helpdesk team
  • Have direct involvement in incidents or problems (irrespective of priority) that cause service impact and act as escalation point for incidents not being resolved in a timely manner
  • Work with the CTO to define IT strategy around systems and infrastructure
  • Undertake any other duties related to the role as may be reasonably required

  • To support infrastructure changes and system deployments it will sometimes be necessary to work out of hours or at the weekend to minimise disruption to the business.

Qualifications and experience

Technical Skills

  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • A deep understanding of AWS, and a wealth of practical hands-on real-world experience using it
  • Plenty of experience working with Office 365 and Azure
  • Highly competent skills using Windows Server based technologies including but not limited to Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS and Hyper-V
  • Good experience of Linux based server administration
  • Excellent understanding of networking principles and technologies covering LAN, WAN and WiFi (Switches, Firewalls, WiFi APs and controllers)
  • Extensive experience working with physical infrastructure-based computer hardware such as Servers, Switches, Firewalls, and storage systems
  • Proficient at Scripting with PowerShell
  • A good understanding of database technologies (MySQL in particular) and experience administering them

Project Management

  • Plenty of project management experience and a proven record delivering implementations and change

This is a flexible role but there will be a requirement for regular time, 3 days each week, to be spent in our office in Wokingham.

Salary £40-50K per annum depending on skills and experience. 22 days increasing to 27 days holiday, pension, health cash plan and group life scheme.
