Software Development Manager

A brand new and exciting opportunity has recently arisen for a Software Development Manager with an extensive experience within Full-stack Development to join a hugely respected, household name based remotely with one day a week on site located in the North East.

ABOUT US
This role is key to making sure that our software solutions and information systems remain fit-for-purpose as we look to adapt and grow.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is about being able to engage with business stakeholders, understanding their strategy and the problems they are trying to solve, identifying the appropriate technical solution, then coordinating resources to deliver that solution. This may include development of new solutions, further development of existing systems, or utilisation and integration with third-party software.

The Software Solutions Manager is accountable for managing and coordinating resources and processes to deliver software releases of group products, while participating in defining the strategy for the product development team by driving initiatives that deliver on the BESA Group companies' visions.

You will manage, coordinate and lead the Software Development team, work with senior stakeholders from cross the Group and coordinate the work programme for the Software Development team.

Key Duties
o Technical Lead - Provide the technical leadership and give direction to the Software Development team.
o Enterprise / Solution Architect - undertake feasibility studies, options appraisal, and solution design across bespoke, built and SAAS solutions.
o Account Manager - managing high-level relationships between software development and business stakeholders.
o Business Plan Awareness - liaise with managers to maintain awareness of business plans.
o Software Development Work Programme - maintain a realistic and visible programme of work.
o Working Practices - define the working practices and processes used by the team.
o Stakeholder Management - keeping relevant managers aware of priorities and scheduling. Manage relevant external relationships.
o Product Roadmaps - work closely with Product Owners, Sales, and Business Analysts, for understanding the system's functional and non-functional requirements.
o Solution Delivery and Maintenance - work together with Product Owners to plan and execute projects, ensure that teams have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction, and resources to deliver products effectively.
o Line Manager - undertaking timely performance appraisals and support the development team as required.
o Mentor and Team Support - provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development.
o Problem Solving - help team members resolve both technical problems as well as human resources issues
o Ongoing Professional Development - ensure ongoing professional development of yourself the team.
o Recruitment - Undertake and participate in relevant recruitment and interviews.

ABOUT YOU

Qualification, Experience & Knowledge - Essential

o Technical Knowledge and Experience - Significant experience in relevant software development technologies and frameworks, including:
" .NET framework (including .NET Core)
" JavaScript frontend frameworks (Angular, React, VueJS)
" Database design and administration (MSSQL and NoSQL, especially Azure Cosmos)
" Mobile Frameworks (Xamarin, Ionic, React Native)
" Serverless Functions (Amazon Lambda, Azure Functions)
" DevOps Practices
" Azure DevOps or similar platforms & technologies (e.g. Jira, Jenkins, Octopus etc)
" Secure Development practices and design - particularly OWASP
" Microsoft DataVerse (formerly Dynamics Common Data Service)
" Website Design and Development with Umbraco
" Application Lifecyle Management
" SCRUM
" Release Management
" Microsoft Dynamics Solutions
" Test Automation (e.g. Selenium, NightWatch, Protractor)
" Detailed understanding of networking technologies.
o Significant experience across all of the key duties.
Qualification, Experience & Knowledge - Desirable
o Significant experience working within, or leading to, this type of role - indicatively 10 years relevant experience.
General Skills & Abilities - Essential
o Strong people and customer service skills.
o Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
o Able to bridge the gap and communicate effectively between the IT team and business stakeholders.
o Must be a team player and is able to work collaboratively and independently.
o Strong leadership skills.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrable desire to share information with a range of stakeholders.
