Please note this role is inside IR35!

My client, a global telecoms operator is currently looking for a Programme/Portfolio Manager to work in their Smart Networks division (SMIP) on an initial 6 month contract basis.

Some of the responsibilities include the following:

  • Working with the Business Owner and Delivery Partner, you will create a coherent and logical set of projects and programmes to deliver business and technical requirements, for the 2022 Smart Networks portfolio.
  • You will work collaboratively with the Business Owner to complete pre-mobilisation activities to mobilise in a time-efficient manner, including vision cards, business cases. You will ensure that the business case data (particularly costs, benefits and risks) is prepared on a consistent and reliable basis across the portfolio, drive progress of projects within the portfolio through DP1 gates and re-baselines dates where mobilisation is delayed.
  • Lead on the preparation of the annual portfolio plan, across a broad set of technical domains and re-baselines the quarterly plan. Identify constraints within the portfolio plan and works with domain reps to overcome them. Keep the portfolio plan up to date and report status to Domain leads/Business Owner on a regular basis.
  • Manage a consolidated view of portfolio project costs. Undertake investment appraisals and support the preparation of required documentation for Investment Committee.
  • Apply a pragmatic and proportionate approach to managing risks and issues within your delivery portfolio and ensure there is an action plan in place to mitigate. Ensure that dependencies are effectively managed and where required escalate issues for resolution. Work with peers (other Portfolio Managers and Programme Managers) to ensure inter-dependencies are identified and managed.
  • Lead a team of Project Managers aligned to their portfolio. Sets clear objectives for all roles on the project and ensures that behavioural expectations of team members are established. Provides feedback to the relevant line managers to support performance and development conversations.

The Smart Networks portfolio forms a significant part of the overarching Smart Metering Portfolio, delivering what is deemed a critical national infrastructure for the UK. As such senior stakeholder management and the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment to tight and demanding timescales is a key attribute for the successful candidate.
