The Ancient Woodland Inventory Officer will assist in completely revising the Ancient Woodland Inventory for parts of Somerset in accordance with recently published Natural England guidance. This will include using GIS to check and edit ancient woodland boundaries by comparison to ancient and modern maps, following a defined methodology for evaluation and ground-truthing of existing or potential ancient woodland parcels, and finalising the project with a new GIS ready data layer and report for Natural England. You will need to be self-motivated and have proven GIS skills along with the ability to demonstrate an interest in conservation/ecology.


The role is a fixed term contract for a total of 2 years, ending in October or November of 2023. Working 30 hrs across the week with the possibility of some evening and weekend work, you will be home based with travel across Somerset and so access to a vehicle and full, clean driving licence is essential.
