Network Design Specialist, Nokia 2G/4G/5G RAN Design & Performance

Flint is currently looking for a Network Design Specialist with Nokia RAN Design and Performance experience to work with a large telecom provider.

Skills Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of Mobile networks particularly 2G, 4G, and 5G with a particularly deep understanding of design and operation.
  • Excellent understanding of how defined RAN KPIs link to Customer Experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of WCDMA/LTE & 5G signalling, troubleshooting & Optimisation.
  • Good understanding of Nokia 2G/4G/5G product.
  • Good understanding of 3GPP & ETSI specifications.

Experience Required:

  • Extensive experience in the mobile telecommunications industry in the role of a lead designer with business-critical, high-availability/high-throughput systems and networks.
    • Able to provide technical solutions, processes definition for network performance & optimisation of 2G/4G/5G based Nokia RAN Macro network.
    • Proven experience in defining and understanding KPI definitions, formulas and measurements of radio networks
    • Able to analyse in-depth, drive test logs, wireshark traces and protocol analysers traces for 2G/3G/4G/5G networks
    • Knowledge of 2G/LTE/5G parameters.
    • Familiarity with test software & devices (Nemo/TEMs/Accuver) & post processing tools (Actix).
    • Experience of working with Suppliers to develop new Network capabilities.


  • Work with the Design Authority and Strategy team to agree on key aspects of Nokia 2G/4G/5G High Level Design.
  • Continually assess and optimise Mobile Network Low-Level Designs (LLDs) for radio parameters, features, Key Performance Indicators across relevant RAN elements during in life phase to optimise Service Performance, User Experience, Network performance improvement and Network Efficiency.
  • Act as main interface for E2E investigations, analysis and design proposals to uplift network. Collaborate with peer teams including those within RAN and Core Network, Transmission Design & Devices to ensure designs are optimal from an E2E perspective.
  • Definition of RAN and E2E Customer experience KPIs.
  • Design & monitoring of interactions between this Product area and other areas of EE network, ie macro network, small cells such as mobility design management and performance.
  • Sets the strategy, definition and enactment of design validation methodology for field test to prove the system and its designs are fit for purpose (from Gate 2 through to and including in-life operation). This includes those for steady state network performance, Software upgrade, Hardware, new feature introduction and defining validation strategy for new products as part of RFP contractual documentation.
  • Working with RAN Design & Development, RAN Operations, RAN planning and Project Management teams to support definition and implementation of RAN Performance management & Optimisation processes for product area.
  • Support in depth analysis of RAN & Customer experience KPI trends, failure causes & trace protocols to identify key End to End performance problems & improvement opportunities
  • Coordinate the activities of internal BT parties, external third parties such as vendors, outsourced partners or parent companies to drive for uplift in product performance and manage the successful development and delivery of designed solutions.
  • Provide 3rd/4th line support to Operations teams.
  • Work with Line manager (as first point of contact) then subsequently Project Delivery & RAN Front door process teams to advise and agree on required resources and timescales to deliver new functionality.
  • Outline and ensure peer teams capture and deliver RAN Design & Performance team requirements in their deliverables.
