My client, a ‘not for profit’ organisation, is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join their small team based in the centre of Basingstoke within walking distance of the train and bus station.

The Assistant Accountant will report directly to the Management Accountant and will assist in the day to day running of the finance function, ensuring all business transactions are captured in a timely and accurate manner.  This is a great opportunity for a recently qualified, part qualified or qualified by experience Accountant to join this ethical business at an exciting time.  The Assistant Accountant role is offered on a hybrid working basis, with the opportunity to work some days from home.  This role will be agency temporary initially with the potential to convert to contract for the right candidate.

Main Responsibilities of the Assistant Accountant

Managing the Accounts Receivable function, processing and monitoring credit exposure producing variance reports
Managing the Accounts Payable process for accuracy and completeness
Reconcile supplier statements to ensure all invoices have been received and statements agree with Accounts Payable Ledger.
Responsible for the weekly supplier run and staff expenses
Performing a review of the financial statements and ensuring that all transactions are allocated correctly in accordance with relevant budgets
Assists in cashflow management and reporting
Reconciling all bank statements and some balance sheet accounts to ensure monthly accounts have been allocated
Checking of VAT returns and reconciliation of VAT accounts
Answering enquiries from both our customers and suppliers
 Required Skills and Experience

Actively studying (ACCA/CIMA/ACA/CA)
Previous broad financial accounting experience required
Keen eye for detail
Ability to communicate effectively with all financial and non-financial colleagues, clients and customers
Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable to change
Can work at pace and manage own workload
Competent with Microsoft products (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, Powerpoint) and previous use of an accounting system
