May Walters is a boutique search consultancy specialising in senior positions within the environmental sector.
Our client is a leading global multi disciplinary with a reputation of delivering high value and complex engineering and environmental solutions to clients. Comprising established engineering and planning divisions, they have the reach into the both domestic and international markets which has enabled them to lead a number of high profile major infrastructure programmes, in addition to complex development & DCO projects. The environmental division is equally well established and is looked upon with some kudos in the organisation, it has also been successful in acquiring new clients and projects such that considerable new resource will be added to the division over the next 12 months to allow it to grow and therefore maintain the quality of delivery for clients.
An opportunity has been identified for an individual to strengthen management within the EIA practice. A Manager is required to take charge of a small team currently located within a midlands office, however the reach of the division and the growth plans have a remit to deliver throughout the UK. A current client base has a varied workload, ranging from work on HS2 and other large infrastructure projects. A business plan to increase the size of the team and deliver further projects into the infrastructure / large project space has been put together based on an increase in opportunity via current clients.
Based from anywhere within the UK (albeit it is noted that most of the current opportunity is in the Midlands and South East), the successful individual would be reporting to the Regional Board. Primary responsibilities would include developing a small team, with an increase in headcount already signed off to double this by the end of the year, in addition to;
• Project Management of existing projects, some Project Direction
• Develop a trusted partner relationship with clients, working with other divisions to identify and advise on further commercial opportunities
• Help to co-ordinate a strategy for growth with the Senior Management Team
With a track record of delivering environmental, ideally EIA or related services, the successful individual would have a track record of developing business in this area and could demonstrate effective team and client management.
Experience of infrastructure projects would be an advantage, but the ability to develop client relationships and translate technical issues in a commercial manner would be key.
This is a senior role within the organisation, about to undergo a massive expansion within this team, so applications are welcome from individuals who would consider this as a move upwards in their career, in addition to more senior individuals wishing to play a part in the exciting development of the company.
For the right individual, a very competitive package would be constructed, together with a performance related bonus, reflective of the role and contribution made. In terms of prospects, the culture of the organisation is geared towards enabling individuals to achieve their professional goals and understanding these goals would form a part of the interview process.
It is notable that despite having a large international footprint and resource, the environmental division is managed autonomously, therefore it can provide a large scope of progression and a supportive culture indicative of a smaller company.
