Engineering Project Lead - Associate Director

WuXi Biologics is investing €325 million in a state-of-the-art greenfield manufacturing plant in Dundalk. This facility will be the world's largest biopharmaceuticals contract manufacturing operation using single use technology. The main products will be monoclonal antibody (MAB) and recombinant proteins based on mammalian cell culture technology. With production scheduled to commence in 2021, this will be WuXi Biologics' first manufacturing facility outside China and will create over 400 jobs.

The Job:

The Engineering Project Lead is responsible for the capital plan programme encompassing short- and long-range planning as well as governance and oversight of the execution of associated Capex activities and works. Develop project structures with associated metrics/reporting capabilities and a site project team to ensure a consistent implementation of works from concept through to handover. Build relationships and networks with above site Global teams and SME's as well as local business owners/area leads to support the Capex programme for the Biologics plant here in Dundalk. Own the site Capital planning programme - including the annual programme of Works, the site capacity plans and the Long-Range Capex forecast. Actively drive an operational excellence and continuous improvement focussed mind-set within the Capex team. As part of the site Engineering leadership team, support the development and growth of key talent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver key strategic capital investments by directly managing major capital projects for the WuXi Biologics site in Dundalk. Directly manage site and global project engineering resources, both staff and contractor. Maintain WuXI Dundalk's long-range capital plan in alignment with the strategic plan and site master technical plans. Develop the technical talent and capital project management expertise of WuXi's site-based engineering teams in order to deliver robust solutions and on time delivery of the site's CDMO programs. Provide functional leadership for WuXi's CDMO programs ensuring timely execution in accordance with client-based project expectations and deliverables. Develop and strengthen WuXi's capital project management processes in conjunction with a Global Program Management office. Document and build the necessary site project procedural standards and controls to govern Capital Projects' execution. Provide functional leadership to deliver technical solutions for WuXi's site-based cost improvement programs via improvements in facility and utility infrastructure supporting including initiatives in improved reliability, availability and uptime. Provide solutions via WuXi's technical network to resolve issues challenging WuXi's ability to delivery finished or intermediate goods at the appropriate levels of quality and efficiency. Provide functional leadership for WuXi's internal site to site technical transfer initiatives requiring capital improvements and investment. Defines the engineering organization charts, staffing and personnel roles within the project engineering department. Ensures that engineering activity is compliant with project milestones. Escalates appropriately in case of unforeseen variation and suggests if needed mitigation measures. Ensures effective technical clarity and process coordination with all project stakeholders.

Strong level of professional experience and strong track record in the management of detailed engineering project teams and project life cycle is required. Experience within the Biotech or Pharmaceutical facilities with experience of sterile/biotech equipment is preferred. Demonstrated experience in organizing and leading engineering support of GMP manufacturing operations. Experience leading a team of engineers and specialist functions previously is desirable. Previous experience in the engineering section of a Project Management Service Provider for the sustaining site works would be advantageous.

Knowledge of safety, GMP and environmental regulatory requirements. A proven track record of delivering continuous improvement and value across multiple process streams and customers.

BSc. degree in an Engineering discipline is preferred. A postgraduate qualification in a relevant area of expertise (eg Business administration, project management) would be advantageous.

A strong communicator with the ability to work well within a cross-functional team to achieve a common objective.
