Unix/Linux system engineer with extensive experience administering RHEL, SUSE and AIX operating systems in a fast-paced client facing role. Candidates will possess skills in automation, server maintenance, security best practices and vulnerability remediation. The person filling this position will be expected to support client systems from inception to deletion. You will be responsible for building virtual/physical machines and installing operating systems with strict security regulations. You will manage and maintain the server environment to ensure all systems are updated within the guidelines of the client patch management policy. You will troubleshoot issues and triage with various internal and external teams to resolve complex issues. You will be expected to contribute to off-hours and weekend work frequently in a 24x7 support capacity.
Identify and perform the daily operational tasks that are necessary to provide stable support of our clients UNIX/Linux environments
Perform Scripting administration tasks and reporting or other Scripting technology, developing scripts for automating processes within the environment.
Take ownership of complex server administration issues and work to resolution and root cause identification.
Participate in off-shift maintenance and troubleshooting activities, as required.
Assess and perform systems utilization and headroom reports to assist in troubleshooting and performance tuning.
Create and maintain appropriate documentation such as work-level-instructions and operations manuals
Assist in defining and coordinating team projects and activities.
Help ensure team performance meets or exceeds defined Service Level Agreements.
Analyze new technologies and advise management on suitability and implementation.
Maintain & perform periodic testing of disaster recovery procedures for customer environment
Adhere to and help enforce change management and compliance processes.
Work with key business users to understand the business requirements and identify potential solutions
Assist with client audits, provide data requested in a timely manner and be able to supplement the collected data with explanation of controls in place in order to provide a narrative for auditors.
Skills, Knowledge, & Experience
Proven troubleshooting skills and ability to understand complex relationships between components of multi-tiered and distributed server environments.
Strong understanding of server architecture, networking concepts, Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Shell scripting, VMware suite of products (mainly vCenter), LDAP, IBM products (AIX, NIM, VIO)
Knowledge in the following areas is a strong plus: Nagios, eDirectory, McAfee suite of products, SIEM, Avamar, ServiceNow
Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills: ability to clearly and concisely articulate issues, alternatives, and recommendations.
Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
Self-driven, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience in a user-focused technical-support environment.
ITIL Foundations knowledge.
Qualifications Work Environment
Minimum of 7 years' experience in an enterprise server environment supporting
Must be located and permitted to work in the United States.
Bachelors degree (B.S./B.A.) in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or related field is desired.
Available for off hours' escalations as part of an On-Call support rotation.
