Purpose of the service:
To strategically lead & manage the development and coordination of volunteer programs and projects that build community assets to meet community needs. Supporting volunteers and team members with a positive experience to cultivate long term, mutually beneficial support relationships for all parties concerned.

Volunteer Manager (VM) – Job description
The Volunteer Manager will be responsible for the strategic development, compliance & management of the tactical & operational delivery of volunteer recruitment & processes that are required in this role. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the charity’s’ teams of talented, friendly people who are passionate and committed to assisting those most in need and often vulnerable in our communities.
This is an expansive role which has accountability for all volunteers, including Volunteer led activities and the associated reporting requirements to meet targets and project requirements. The VM is responsible for the management oversight and delivery of the overarching volunteer recruitment strategy, delivery, engagement, policy and reporting.
The VM will have proven leadership skills and personal attributes that supports both independent working, as well as embracing a collaborative team environment to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and the overall delivery of the service in order to support both the not-for-profit charity as an organisation, their teams and their volunteers.
The VM will work closely with senior management and the other teams to plan campaigns for volunteer recruitment and to also underpin support to ensure volunteer retention. The VM will design and implement the planning cycles for volunteer recruitment, volunteer training, as well as any other tactical aspects of this role that present themselves.
In line with the charity’s values, the post holder will support team members and volunteers to maximise potential and performance; the post holder will share experience and knowledge to support a culture of trust, high performance, ambition and appreciation.
In an ever-changing business environment, the need to be flexible is a prerequisite and therefore the role description outlined herein is not exclusive to this post as there may be the need to change and assign different or additional operational responsibilities to accommodate business, contractual developments and obligations.

Main areas of responsibility:-
Leadership & Coordination

To act as a champion for volunteering.
Lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of volunteer programme which generates opportunities and role descriptions based on current operational programme aspirations.
Manage the practicalities of the department, including policies, procedures, standards and budgets.
Embed good practice in volunteer coordination, training, motivation, recruitment and safeguarding.
By example, encourage the development of a leadership style that seeks out the benefits of collaborative action whilst championing the importance of accountability.
Monitor and evaluate; i.e. satisfaction surveys, exit interviews, case studies.

Skills
• Excellent writing, interpersonal, verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Project management proficiency.
• Recruitment, interviewing and training experience.
• Marketing and social media skills.
• Desirable - Proficiency in suite of Microsoft Software. Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising software.

Abilities/Aptitudes needed/Experience

To motivate and engage people
Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity;
Capacity to inspire, influence and motivate others;
Proven experience of initiating and managing projects;
Good organisational multitasking skills;
An empathy with volunteers and an understanding of their needs;
Prioritise, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to assess risk and carry out risk assessments
To develop and maintain project monitoring for efficiency management and contract delivery.
Negotiation and facilitation skills
Have an appreciation of a matrix work environment
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people.
Administrative and IT skills, and an ability to maintain records and produce reports.
Desirable - Understand legislation and best practice relating to volunteers.
Qualifications
Graduates/officers from HR or social studies or social care educational backgrounds.

ILM programmes or recognised learning.

The post requires that a current driving license and a car is available for business purposes.

This role will require the post holder to be flexible between 8am – 8pm for those occasions when necessity dictates, but core hours will be agreed. Applicants must be able to commit to some evening and weekend work, at varying times throughout the year due events and training
