Position Description The Civil & Environmental Engineering Group within Engineering and Major Projects provides the full range of planning, design, construction, and maintenance services required for electricity industry infrastructure projects both in Ireland and overseas.
The Senior Civil Engineer role includes the delivery of civil engineering services from feasibility through construction stage of electricity infrastructure projects. It involves the provision of relevant technical engineering services associated with Maintenance and Upgrades at our 900MW Thermal Generating Station which includes a 380m long Coal Unloading Jetty. The role includes the design, procurement through Framework Contracts and supervision of Maintenance Works to the Civil and Structural Infrastructure at the Station. The rehabilitation and refurbishment of structural steelwork elements and the maintenance and upgrade of corrosion protection systems, in this harsh environment, is a key element of the role. A significant part of the role is maintaining the integrity of the drainage system and upgrades to interceptors, all in accordance with EPA IE Licence Requirements. The creation of a Green Energy Hub is an ambitious challenge within our Brighter Future Strategy and the Senior Civil Engineer Role will may involve the research and provision, from time to time, of existing infrastructure details for this Green Atlantic Project.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Promoting and leading on the safety management culture across all activities by taking ownership and demonstrating visible commitment to safety, including strong adherence and implementation of the Station Safety Procedures. Ensuring that Quality Procedures are implemented on all projects. Implementation of contracting strategies and managing the procurement and execution of contracts for Maintenance and Construction Activities. Planning of Works to facilitate Station Overhaul Programme. Managing and co-ordinating, across Generation and Engineering and Major Projects (EMP) all relevant civil, structural, and environmental engineering activities required to successfully deliver projects to approved scope, budget, and programme. Specifying and managing sub-contractor and sub-consultant inputs for site investigation, assessment, feasibility studies, design, consenting and construction. Building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Managing and delivering the program of civil/structural inspections as specified in the station civil engineering maintenance manual
o Troubleshoot as-found issues/requests on civil/structural matters and develop solutions to support production
o Drainage system testing/inspection and upgrades
o Bund testing and upgrade program
o Roof maintenance, Louvre services and repairs as required
o Jetty cathodic protection system inspection and maintenance
o Chimney inspection and maintenance
o Liaise with E & MP civil design dept. where required for specific design tasks as required
Managing projects through the contractor management process. Acting as the Station Civil Engineering liaison for new infrastructure projects that interface with the station.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have: -
Developed a competent level of expertise in the delivery of civil/structural engineering packages.
Onsite construction experience
Developed a strong technical capability, in civil and structural engineering.
A strong commercial and project management capability.
Demonstrated a strong capability in assessing communicating and managing project critical technical risks
Proven record of being results driven and customer oriented.
Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
Full driving licence and access to a car.
Demonstrated a record of successfully managing significant projects or aspects of significant projects of a multi-disciplinary nature.
The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. A strong ability to identify project work requirements and to initiate necessary work with limited oversight. Experience in the contractual implementation of Construction Frameworks. A proven ability to work as part of a project team. Experience in performing PSDP role on projects and a working familiarity with the duties and responsibilities of the PSCS Role.
Level 8 Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.
Level 9 Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification. Chartered status in a recognised professional
