About The Role
HS2 is entering the detailed design phase of the project and requires an additional team member to join the Engineering Assurance Team responsible for specific Environmental queries in relation to the specification for civil engineering works (SCEW). You will be part of the Environmental team responsible for assisting the Engineering Assurance Manager in responding to specific queries regarding Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) and the SCEW working in collaboration with the wider design team, including engineering disciplines as well as the construction team.
The role will also require engagement with HS2 stakeholders. During the construction of the project you will be required to reviewing the implementation of the design on-site such as planting schemes and ecological mitigation sites, advising of design changes required as the project matures. Site visits will be required from time to time to review the establishment of planting ensuring that it is inline with the requirements of the contract. You will work in collaboration with the wider Environmental Team, client, designers, community, stakeholder and public relations managers to ensure the programme is achieved.
You will lead by example and promote good practice relating to environmental management & sustainability, sharing best practice and learning. About The Candidate
Management of key design elements and support the Environmental Assurance Manager
Ensure that the requirements of the SCEW and Quality and Assurance requirements are complied with and are delivered.
Complete reviews and provide advice to the Environmental Assurance Manager regarding the appropriate use of pesticide and herbicides, appropriate planting methodologies, approvals of plant stock including sourcing, transport and storage prior to planting. This will include visits to the nurseries providing the plants ensuring that those of the correct standard are used.
Review of method statements to ensure that they are inline with the requirements of the project and the planting beds are in a suitable condition for seeding and/or planting.
Ensure that the documentation reviewed is in line with applicable legislation and industry best practice demonstrating compliance with the HS2 SCEW
Increase environmental awareness within the wider team.
Establish and maintain a programme for reporting, and demonstrating compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practice
Assist with the implementation of BS EN ISO14001 certification and audit against the standard and internal procedures
Work with Design and the Construction team to ensure that the programme is adhered to and that environmental timescales are built into the quality assurance review programme and that risk is understood.
Undertake other tasks from time to time to support the wider Environment Team.Key skills and experience
Experience of working in the water industry, ideally as a hydrogeologist/hydrologist/water resources specialist, either in the private sector, for regulatory authorities or academic institution
A sound awareness of the relevant legislation covering water resources and water quality
Willing to assist with the management of other environmental disciplines
Strong stakeholder management skills with experience of influencing and negotiating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and the ability to extract key points and communicate this to others
Experience of driving improvements to systems and processes
You will have good inter-personal skills and be able to develop and maintain good relationships and networks
Membership of an appropriate professional body working towards chartered status such as the Landscape Institute
