We are seeking a Metallurgist or a Materials Scientist for this exciting opportunity to travel worldwide to investigate problems involving a wide variety of incidents. The successful applicant will conduct fascinating and challenging work which frequently results in giving evidence as expert witness in arbitration and court hearings.

Metallurgist/Materials Scientist - The Company

The Company is a major consultancy based in the United Kingdom and operating worldwide. Its Scientists provide expert advice to the shipping, oil & gas, renewable energy, insurance and law industries.

Metallurgist/Materials Scientist - The Role

* You will be expected to travel, frequently and at short notice, to visit vessels/sites all over the world in order to ascertain the nature, cause and extent of metallurgy problems and to gather evidence

* Attend laboratory tests relating to metallurgy matters

* You will be expected to take control of investigations and you must be prepared to remain on site for some time, depending upon the case requirements

* To provide expert evidence in court/ arbitration in relation to their written expert testimony

* When not travelling, you will also be required to provide scientific and technical opinions to clients based on documentary evidence and reports, as well as fielding various enquiries from clients

* To provide advice/ support to clients in metallurgy related matters

* You will also be expected to actively engage with marketing, attending functions and giving talks on various subjects

Metallurgist/Materials Scientist - The Candidate

* You should have a degree in a relevant subject

* A PhD is desirable but not essential

* An expert working knowledge of composites and/or polymers

* Industry experience within a relevant sector preferred e.g. Offshore, Oil&Gas or Renewable Energy

* Laboratory experience is desirable

* You should have a wide-ranging scientific interest and knowledge

* You must be an adaptable, motivated and dynamic person with a track record of conducting rigorous science and an ability to provide succinct and reliable reports to a very high quality

* Full driving license is essential
