Role and Responsibilities
As Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll be required to support and administer core server infrastructure.
This is an exciting and challenging role for those looking to deliver technological change against a background of organisational transformation, as well as an opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives by delivering great digital products.
The purpose of the role is to build and deliver Production and Pre-production server environments for new and existing projects and services using the Microsoft Windows Server platform hosted in a cloud environment. Provide preventative support as well as integration activity for the MS Windows client and server environments, including the supporting infrastructure components such as MS System Centre, VMWare, Active Directory as well as integration where appropriate with the administrative infrastructure.
Duties will include:
As an Infrastructure Engineer within the team you will;
Work with projects to develop, test and implement the server designs and support the implementation of services to utilise the platforms, including migration of data, integration with supporting infrastructure etc.
Under the direction of the service manager, provide ongoing administration and support, ensuring issues and incidents are dealt with effectively and efficiently.
Monitor the performance and capacity of the virtual platforms to ensure optimal and on-going service delivery is achieved.
Seek opportunities to improve service and reduce cost.
Join the team on-call rota to support the business-critical platforms we deliver.
Knowledge and experience of implementing Microsoft Windows Server and Workstation Operating systems.
Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / 2012.
Understanding of Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager 2012 related tasks for deploying applications and operating system patches.
Experience of virtualisation of systems.
Experience in the administration of Active Directory relative to the management of infrastructure objects. AD, ADFS.
Ideally the post holder would have some exposure to cloud environments such as Azure and AWS, and implementing and managing platforms in those environments.
Understanding of non-functional requirements in relation to server platforms and the services they support, and able to assess suitability of technology services to meet the NFRs.
Experience of monitoring and patch management of server-based infrastructure including having a good understanding of Opsview, and WSUS.
Experience of attending project meetings from a technical point of view/ be able to talk about server infrastructure with confidence.
Understanding of legacy/on prem infrastructure and applications.
