Military and Veterans Health Solutions under the Leidos Health Group is looking for a credentialed Part Time Physical Therapist to provide therapy and research support for injury prevention and rehabilitation research programs with a focus on warfighters with musculoskeletal injury using standard clinical therapies, as well as innovative virtual rehabilitation therapies.


The Physical Therapist (PT) will be required to execute a full range of direct physical therapy procedures, diagnostic, and treatment services for military personnel and beneficiaries as part of standard care and innovative research protocols. The PT will integrate a number of research and treatment services and functions into overall support of the research programs for Leidos and our government customers at the Naval Health Research Center, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, and collaborating institutions. This position requires thorough knowledge of standard Physical Therapy and Athletic Training care, research and clinical program objectives, program services, methods, and techniques necessary to effectively accomplish the research and clinical program goals.


The applicant will be required to work effectively with a team of researchers and clinicians at Leidos, the Naval Health Research Center, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Naval Medical Center San Diego, University of Kentucky, and several other military, academic, and private institutions.
Work is primarily conducted at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton with some local project work conducted at Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, other military installations in San Diego.


Primary Responsibilities


Requirements include but are not limited to:
Perform comprehensive neurological, orthopedic, and physical evaluation of service members referred to the clinic and research programs
Provide PT subject matter expertise to contribute to research and clinical program proposals and protocols
Conduct informed consent briefings for potential research participants, screen participants for eligibility for research programs
Conduct research and clinical measurements, recordings, and data entry following established procedures
Interpret research findings
Contribute to abstracts, presentations, reports, publications, and briefs to stakeholders
Develop standard operating procedures
Establish and maintain effective, professional communication and working relationships with junior level staff, peers, clinicians, managers, collaborators, stakeholders, and customer
Evaluate and manage complex orthopedic injuries utilizing advanced clinical techniques including technically advanced computerized equipment
Develop history and physical evaluation methods to test and treat injuries
Combine exams with information from specialized test results, physician and other health care provider histories and physicals, radiographic, and laboratory exams
Develop independent treatment plan for patients utilizing a combination of standard physical and occupational therapy modalities, as well as innovative treatment modalities
Incorporate measureable and objective patient short and long range rehabilitation goals
Conduct follow-up to determine level of rehabilitation progression and modifications needed, as well as establish future recovery goals
Conduct evaluations to determine discharge recommendations and/or placement
Apply age and condition appropriate care
Provide expert clinical opinion and support care rendered by support staff to ensure treatment plans are being carried out as intended
Ensure appropriate practice as set by the American Physical Therapy Association and the National Athletic Training Association
Assist with the development of research and rehabilitation proposals and protocols
Comply with all required Leidos and Government requirements and complete required certifications and trainings
Demonstrate Leidos mission, vision, and values at all times


Basic Qualifications


Master's or Doctoral degree from an American Physical Therapy Association accredited university. Holds a current, valid license to practice Physical Therapy from any state of the United States of America. Minimum of 2 years of Physical Therapy practice.
Demonstrates mastery of clinical modalities and equipment.
Advanced knowledge of physical therapy theory, orthopedic injury evaluation methods and techniques, professional medical rehabilitation and therapeutic principles. Extensive clinical experience and training with integrating complex medical conditions and designing individualized treatment plans based on documented objective findings from the evaluation process.
Ability to develop rapport with patients, their family members, and clinic/hospital/research staff to develop confidence and cooperation.
Ability to communicate clearly, both written and oral, the intended plan of care
Technical understanding in the use of applicable equipment.
Ability to find solutions and take action to ensure project deliverables remain on schedule.
U.S. Citizenship, the ability to obtain a Secret clearance, and the ability to receive credentialing privileges at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton is required.


Preferred Qualifications


Experience working in a military clinical setting and with military populations.
Human subjects research experience.
Specialized experience in orthopaedic injuries, including foot and ankle.
Experience conducting clinical research.
Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate an active Secret clearance and current credentialing privileges at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.
