Position Summary: This position assists with various and healthcare legal issues including fraud and abuse, reimbursement, healthcare licensing, labor and employment law, medical legal, contracts, transactional management, physician and hospital contracting, public record requests, risk management, managing legal cases, and researching issues involving medicare/medicaid. Researches and prepares reports on legal issues. Provides contract review and assists with negotiation, drafting, and management services for Legal Department. Responsibilities include maintaining and revising established policies and procedures, legal research, and proposing efficient defense strategies. Works closely with General Counsel handling legal matters within organization. The characteristics of the position and standards of performance may be changed by TCMC with or without prior notice based on the needs of the organization. * Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements. * Provides accurate and timely counsel to executives on a variety of legal topics including labor and employment law, medical legal issues, finance, contracts, fraud, licensing, medicare/medicaid, etc. * Collaborates with management to devise efficient defense strategies. * Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding healthcare and health law decisions and operations. * Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues. * Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority, etc.). * Draft and solidify agreements, contracts, reports, and other legal documents. * Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to others in the organization. * Assists with healthcare regulatory including fraud and abuse, contracts and healthcare licensing. * Monitors contracting policies and procedures related to Legal Department in coordination with General Counsel. * Operates and assists with contracts within organization independently and with General Counsel. * Assists with complex business transactions in negotiating critical contracts. Works with General Counsel to define a strategic course of action. * Monitors all legal/litigation matters and public record requests on dashboard. * Edits and drafts policy and procedures. * Assists with business transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. * Works with contracts paralegal, Human Resources department, Patient Complaint/Grievance, and Risk department as needed. * Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Minimum of 2 to 4 years in a legal department or healthcare law environment, required. * Medical/Healthcare experience, preferred. * Litigation experience, required. * Employment law, preferred. * Excellent written and oral communication skills, required. * Ability to work in a fast paced environment, required. * Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi task and change priorities based on customer needs. * Excellent communication skills via telephone, phone and correspondence, required. * Proficient computer and software skills (MS Office, Database, timekeeping, email), required. Education: * Graduate of an accredited school of law, JD degree, required. Licenses: * California licensed attorney, required.
