Job Title: Production Supervisor Job Description: Indianapolis, IN (Southwest) PURPOSE AND SCOPE The Production Supervisor is responsible for daily production operations in their respective department. The Production Supervisor works with the Group Leaders and Team Leaders to schedule and complete items, and also reports to the Plant Manager on all production related items. The Production Supervisor is responsible for their department s employee safety, quality, customer satisfaction, inventory accuracy, cost management (scrap, labor, supplies), continuous improvement, and employee training. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following: Maintain Daily Department Production Schedules Work with Production Scheduling to keep schedule accurate Verify inventory to confirm parts in stock meet the production schedule Communicate any and all changes or problems with the schedule Update Plant Manager with schedule status at beginning and end of day Work with Group Leaders and Team Leaders to keep schedule accurate Prioritize hot orders , while still maintaining production schedule Adjust schedule based on labor capacity and customer demand Manage Departmental Safety, 5S, and Continuous Improvement Activities Attend applicable Continuous improvement and safety meetings Monitor and insure daily safety activity for department Report and document any safety incidents immediately (including first aid and near miss events) to HR Manager and Safety Supervisor Organize department to meet 5S and continuous improvement standards Work with Safety Supervisor determine what items need to be to addressed Ensure Company Policies and Rules are Followed Establish a positive working environment by promoting communication Monitor work performance and attendance, and document any problems Deal with difficult and interpersonal employee issues in a respectful and professional manner Work with HR Manager and Plant Manager when situation with employee becomes elevated Track and Report Attendance Enter all attendance related information into timekeeping system Audit and approve employee hours for payroll Fill out absence forms, and monitor employee points Monitor and approve employees vacation and personal time Monitor Inventory Proactively check inventory status for each order Communicate any discrepancies to scheduling and purchasing Complete annual inventory audit for department Complete Daily Departmental Reports (Efficiency, Scrap, Substitutions, etc). Complete and distribute all reports Meet with Team/Group Leaders to determine areas that need improvement and action items Meet with Plant Manager to discuss report and action items Evaluate quality and production related reports from Team/Group Leaders and resolve any issues Manage Overtime, Consumables, and Operating Supplies for Department Identify and report any waste and/or inefficiencies found in departments Track all OT and advise Team/Group Leaders when other area employees can be used to reduce OT Track consumable usage and evaluate items for excessive use or possible alternatives Establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOP s) Develops SOP s for department Ensure consistency Develop employee training based on SOP s Oversee Employee and Team/Group Leader Training Work with Plant Manager & HR to create training & development plant for employees Train new Team/Group Leaders on company processes Make employee training a priority for the department Develop Team/Group Leaders for backup and future supervisor positions Indicate areas where cross training is needed and work with Team/Group Leaders to schedule training Hold team/group leaders accountable for employee training Ensure employees have the tools and resources need to be successful at their job Ensure Quality Control and Quality Assurance for Department Oversee QC/QA for department, in coordination with Quality team Hold team/group leaders accountable for quality inspection of product Resolve quality issues by identifying root cause, and implementing corrections Work with Quality team to identify and eliminate errors and defects Facilitate Maintenance and Mfg. Engineering Projects Work with Team/Group Leaders to schedule all PM activity for Maintenance Work with Manufacturing Engineering to schedule machine improvement projects Participate in Employee Performance Reviews Meet with HR Manager and Plant Manager to review employees in department Grade employee in job performance, safety, teamwork, and communication Discuss short and long term development goals for employee Supervise Performance Documentation and Corrective Action Document positive and negative feedback via ACT Forms Work with HR Manager and Plant Manager to develop formal write ups and performance plans Focus on communication, feedback, and corrective action Participate in 9AM Production Meeting Report all production on goings, scrap, and efficiency from the previous day Report any staffing, safety, or maintenance items that need to be discussed Discuss any hot orders and/or changes to the schedule for the day Update & inform employees via departmental meetings separate from the 9AM meeting Meet with Team/Group Leaders after 9AM meeting to discuss any important information, situations, or problems EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or GED/High School Equivalency required Two year college degree and/or combination of education and related experience preferred Three or more years of related experience in a manufacturing environment Experience working in the trailer/trucking industry highly preferred Experience having a dynamic role in a mid sized company highly preferred COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual must have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) ERP experience a plus ADP experience a plus PERSONAL SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Able to handle a heavy work load Ability to manage, track and report long term projects Adapt easily to change Strong communication and teamwork skills and ability to work self directed Sense of urgency with an attention to detail and safety Comfort with operating in a challenging, fast paced environment Able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs as required Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with fellow employees Ability to work variable hours and overtime based on the needs of the business Ability to pass a pre employment drug screen and background check Indianapolis, IN (Southwest) PURPOSE AND SCOPE The Production Supervisor is responsible for daily production operations in their respective department.
