Remote Sensing Analyst


Overview


Our client is looking for a Remote Sensing Analyst to work within their Remote Sensing team. The main purpose of the role will be to assist with the identification, specification, development, and implementation of Earth Observation solutions to meet our client's business requirements.


Salary


€35,000 to €45,000 per annum, depending on experience.


Working Hours


The standard working hours will be 38.75 hours per week. The daily working hours are between 8.30 am to 5.15 pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30 am to 2.45 pm on Fridays. Flexibility regarding start and finish times is possible in agreement with your line manager.


Location


The successful candidate will have a choice of location, either Portlaoise or Dublin, Ireland.


For the duration of COVID restrictions, you will be working remotely. There will be a requirement to work on-site when restrictions come to an end.

Education


  • University degree or equivalent in Remote Sensing.

Knowledge and Experience


At least 2 years' experience in Remote Sensing is essential, including skills in:



  • Use of remote sensing technologies, image classification and visualisation.

  • Data Analysis, processing, and management.

  • Experience of SAR imagery processing.

  • Knowledge of and experience using common image classification techniques, including unsupervised classification, supervised classification, and thresholding.

  • Experience in the collection and compilation of training data.

  • Experience with image pre-processing and post-processing, including but not limited to the following processes:

    • Atmospheric correction.

    • Feature masking.

    • Principal component analysis.

    • Data scaling and normalisation.


    • Spectral signature analysis.

    • Dealing with null values.



  • Experience using and creating additional datasets in conjunction with remote sensing imagery:

    • DEM's.

    • Vector datasets.

    • Tabular data.



  • Experience with image manipulation to aid in feature identification, including the use of appropriate spectral indices, texture analysis, time series analysis etc.

  • Experience using remote sensing software such as ERDAS Imagine and ENVI.

  • Experience with open-source software such as QGIS, SNAP and GRASS.


Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:



  • Programming capabilities with R and Python.

  • Experience building models in QGIS, SNAP or other software, to automate processing chains.

  • Experience with high, medium, and low-resolution optical imagery, such as MODIS, WorldView, Pleiades etc.

  • Knowledge of object-oriented classification techniques.

  • Knowledge of and experience using machine learning classification algorithms such as random forests and support vector machine.

  • Experience with post-classification accuracy assessment and knowledge of the most important accuracy assessment metrics.

  • Experience assessing and determining the most important variables to be included in image classifications.

  • Time series analysis and change detection.

  • Knowledge of the use of remote sensing within an agricultural context.
