A global leading cutting edge technology business require an experienced Hardware Development Engineer or FPGA Digital Design Engineer ideally with strong System Verilog experience to work alongside leading researchers and build part of a new platform for accelerating distributed systems that can be deployed at cloud scale.

Description of the FPGA Digital Design Engineer/Hardware Development Engineer with System Verilog Exp, position:

The fast growth of the cloud is continuously driving hardware innovation and my client is working on exploring new architectures beyond traditional computer systems to improve the efficiency and performance of cloud infrastructure. Working alongside leading researchers, the candidate will build a part of a new platform for accelerating distributed systems that can be deployed at cloud scale - today, nearly every new server in their data centers integrates an FPGA into a unique configurable hardware layer. The Hardware Development Engineer will extend their prototype distributed systems FPGA platform to access data stored on NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory express) devices and process it. This will bring new capabilities to the platform and allow them to target new classes of workloads.

Skill-set of the FPGA Digital Design Engineer/Hardware Development Engineer with System Verilog Exp, position:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • FPGA digital design.
  • System Verilog.
  • Altera/Intel tool chain a plus.
  • Data processing in FPGA/NVMe protocol a plus or Non-Volatile Memory/Volatile Memory or similar.
  • Windows driver development.
  • Experience in working collaboratively in multidisciplinary environments.

Experience required for the FPGA Digital Design Engineer/Hardware Development Engineer with System Verilog Exp, position:

  • The candidate should be able to design, implement, test, and integrate with the rest of the system a hardware component that will read and write data from NVMe devices at the maximum bandwidth supported by storage devices.
  • The candidate might have to read and modify Windows device drivers.
  • Experience with NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory express) protocol and data processing in FPGA (eg sorting, filtering, compression) is welcome.
  • They expect a solid background in System Verilog, as the platform is built entirely in System Verilog.
  • Their tool chain uses Modelsim and Questasim tools for simulation and verification.
  • The platform is based on Intel FPGAs, so experience with Intel FPGAs would help, although it is not mandatory.

Typical Day in the Role for the FPGA Digital Design Engineer/Hardware Development Engineer with System Verilog Exp, position:

This is an engineering role and the day will be spent on engineering tasks. The role is focused on building a hardware component that will read and write data from NVMe devices and further processing it. The typical day will be spent in writing functionality in System Verilog, simulating it, testing it on the machines in their local cluster, documenting the work, integrating with the rest of the system, communicating extensively with the rest of the team, and if needed, reading, and changing a Windows driver for interfacing with NVMe devices.
