For our client in Zurich, Swiss bank, we are looking for an Oracle Engineer/Architect for an 11-months project (extension possible)
Overview of business area or project:
Data Warehouse is one of the key enterprise data management and analytics platforms offered by the Group CIO organisation in Switzerland. It hosts about 100 critical applications used by thousands of users across the bank for management information and regulatory reporting. Following the recently completed migration project to Oracle 19c on Exadata, a follow-up project will focus on security & control and enabling applications to evolve and adopt database design patterns that best leverage the native capabilities of the Oracle Exadata platform.
Interface between customers (application teams) and database operations.
Maintain and extend the standard architecture documents and guidelines for the DWH platform.
Advise on security and control implementation questions on a DWH platform.
Support applications in decisions concerning suitable data structures for optimal performance and compression on Exadata.
Develop new archiving concept leveraging new Exadata storage options.
Improve the configurations of the new infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
Review and verify capacity plan based on current growth trends.
Provide architectural guidance in modernizing the DWH platform for integration with new data sources such as the Data Lake and use of automated test environment provisioning
Overview of the department/team (team size, backgrounds, personalities):
The team working on this project is about 5-10 people depending on the project phase. The Team is based in Switzerland. There is cooperation with Teams abroad (UK, Poland, possibly India).
Challenges Contractor will be facing in this role:
Credit Suisse made a substantial investment with the upgrade to the new DWH platform. Some databases are structurally using Legacy designs and not ideally suited to leverage the full potential. The DBA team does not have the bandwidth or remit to advice applications extensively on design questions. The role as a central DWH Engineer/Architect is placed as an intermediator. As a large organization there are many stakeholders and groups with occasionally conflicting targets. The candidate will have to be able to communicate well and navigate through challenging discussions.
