SunIRef:cr001 The Director, Legislative Affairs is responsible for representing the company, principally to Congress, on legislation, programs, and budget issues that are of vital concern to the company. This position will develop and execute legislative strategies and initiatives to support the customer and enterprise interests. The Director reports to the Vice President, Legislative Affairs and serves as legislative advisor to the business they represent. The Director will: Define and execute a legislative program which supports the objectives of the assigned business and support legislative initiatives advancing the interests of the larger enterprise. Develop, maintain and coordinate relationships within the federal offices, organizations and communities and implement support for legislative programs in assigned business. Assist in the planning and execution of programs and events to enhance the company's/business's reputation and image with federal officials, customers, industry, employees, and the general public. Establish and foster strong working relationships with the assigned business. Provide training, advice, and counsel to assigned internal customers in the area of government relations and compliance with regulations and laws. Successfully grow and effectively utilize Political Action Committee (PAC) resources and support PAC activities. Required Skills and Education Proven knowledge and experience in the legislative process especially relative to the Department of Defense and other agencies. Proven recent legislative success in the Defense Appropriations and National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Relationships with key constituent/defense jurisdiction Members of Congress. Interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels, both internally and externally. Ability to understand and interpret the broader political environment. Ability to develop strategies and campaigns that support and advance the business. Ability to see the big picture and understand diverse points of view in order to build alliances and understand the customer. A bachelor's degree 7 or more years of work experience 5 or more years working the legislative environment About BAE Systems, Inc.
