Within Equinix, the Office of the CTO (OCTO) is chartered with:

* Developing the company's technology roadmap and target architecture to advance the vision of Platform Equinix based on a "software-defined-everything" model;

* Driving next-generation technology development & innovation to guide decisions on new investments and service offerings; and

* Delivering industry thought leadership, with a focus on building a closer engagement with the software developer community.

Equinix's OCTO team membersare seasoned technologists whohave a deep passion for innovation and bring perspectives from diverse technology backgrounds and areas, including, and not limited to, distributed systems, cloud-native computing, software-defined infrastructure (data center, networking, bare-metal), large-scale data processing, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, security, etc.

The OCTO team is looking for a "Principal Network Engineer, Technology and Architecture" to help design and develop next-generation networking capabilities that will help shape the technology vision and target architecture of Equinix's products and services.We are looking for someonewith a passion for developing modern, world-class networking solutions that are scalable, reliable and programmable through software.

While the preferred location for the role is our global headquarters in Redwood City, CA (or Sunnyvale, CA), there is an option for candidates to be based at other major Equinix locations in the US.

As a Principal Network Engineer, you willprovide network engineering expertise and technical leadership for at least one next-generation technology initiative critical to the OCTO's charter. You will have the flexibility to work on different projects to learn new technologies as we continue to explore new areas and drive innovation across the infrastructure stack and technology domains.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provide technical leadership to design, implement, test, deploy, maintain and improve networking solutions for next-generation infrastructure programmability and automation capabilities.

* Drive cross-stakeholder requirements gathering and technical discussions, as well as design reviews and test plans development.

* Contribute to efforts to develop and refine Equinix's network architecture principles, vision and roadmap.

* Serve as a visible thought leader internally (e.g. by providing mentorship on modern network design) as well as externally (e.g. through engagements within relevant industry forums and making technical contributions).

QUALIFICATIONS

* A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field. A Master of Science or Ph.D. degree is preferred.

* 10+ years of relevant technology and network engineering/architecture experience. 12+ years' experience is preferred.

* Solid understanding of full networking stack (routing, switching and optical networking), including key protocols & standards, Linux networking and open-source solutions, vendor ecosystems and implementation best practices.

* Experience developing networking capabilities deployed in large-scale infrastructures. Experience examples include network engineering, NetDevOps, tooling/API development, significant open-source contributions, etc.

* Passion for infrastructure automation through software.

* Solid hands-on experience with network automation. Experience in programming languages (Go, Java, Python, etc.) or API development for network automation a plus.

* In-depth understanding of modern, software-defined, cloud-native networking technologies.

* Experience with open networking technologies, ecosystems, open-source community and industry forums such as the Linux Foundation.

* In-depth understanding of open networking trends and innovations, including next-generation network hardware, software, platform architectures and disaggregated systems.

* Solid technical understanding of hybrid, multi-cloud architectures (engineering/operations experience a bonus).

* Excellent writing and verbal communications skills from engineering to executive.

* Excellent collaboration and people skills.
