Climate Emergency Communications Graduate (GBP)

Posted on Oct 17, 2020 by University of Exeter (Graduate Business Partnership)

Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom
Immediate Start
£18.8k - £18.8k Annual

A graduate is sought by Devon County Council to support 25 member organisations of the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group, with communications requirements of the Devon Climate Emergency project. This is a 6 month role with potential for a 16-month extension if further funding is committed.

The post is hosted by Devon County Council's Environment Group which is based at County Hall, Exeter and includes a range of specialist officers covering issues relating to ecology, marine and estuaries, landscapes, flooding, historic environment, AONBs, energy and climate change.

The team is largely working at home due to COVID-19. This arrangement is likely to continue until at least March 2021, however the office in Exeter is open on a COVID-secure basis for staff needing a place to work. During the early months of the internship there is no need for the post holder to be located within easy travelling distance of Devon. Should government guidance on public gatherings be relaxed during 2021, the project is likely to need to run public engagement events. In this situation, the post holder would need to travel to Devon to plan and take part in these events. However, future COVID-19 guidance is unknown.

Devon County Council is leading a Devon-wide response to the climate emergency. Twenty-five organisations are working together through the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group to develop a Devon Carbon Plan and review the risks to Devon from a 1.5-degree warmer world.
