Northrop Grumman is seeking an experienced Sr. Principal Metallurgist/Materials Engineer.
Responsibilities may include the following:
Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production metallic issues.
Generates material usage reports, test plans & reports and hazardous materials management program reports using NAS411.
Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.
Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 9 years experience in design and fabrication of metallic structures or a Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 7 years of experience in design fabrication of metallic structures.
Experience with corrosion control methodology
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
BS or MS, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or similar
Experience in fabrication of metallic airframe structures
Experience with military specs and standards.
Experience interfacing with a military customer.
Experience with material testing and qualification efforts, detailed drawing reviews, and supporting aircraft build
