The Immunity, Inflammation and Disease Laboratory (IIDL) within the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is recruiting a Tenure-Track Investigator in the area of extracellular matrix biology and innate immunity and their interactions in lung inflammatory diseases and airway remodeling triggered by the environment. Scientists within the IIDL () investigate the fundamental mechanisms by which immune and inflammatory responses are triggered in the lung and other organs and contribute to disease. These investigations make use of cell and rodent models to study how immune mechanisms may result in consequences to human health. The NIEHS is located in the Research Triangle Park (RTP), a world-renowned academic research center in North Carolina and an area well known for its high quality of life. The successful candidate is expected to lead an innovative, independent research program exploring the role of extracellular matrix in environmentally-induced lung disease that enhances our understanding the effects of the environment on human health. Investigators in the NIH intramural program () have no formal teaching duties and minimal administrative responsibilities. They are funded internally with the potential for generous long-term continuous support. In exchange they are expected to engage directly in: the conduct of high impact research with students, postdoctoral fellows and support staff, and to collaborate with their colleagues to solve important scientific problems related to the Institute's mission. Excellent start-up funds, salary, and benefits packages will be provided to the selected applicant, who will also have access to state-of-the-art research core facilities
