Distribution Network Planner

My client is looking for an experienced Network Planner to join on a 12 month contract, based in Dublin, Ireland.

The ideal candidate will have experience and good knowledge of networks engineering, transmission and distribution network planning and the technologies associated.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess customer requirements (both generation and demand customers) or system reinforcement requirements,
  • Carry out studies to determine Least Cost Technically Acceptable (LCTA) connection methods for new customers seeking connection to the distribution network,
  • Ensure all connection applications are processed in line with CRU-approved policies,
  • Utilise load flow software (Synergi, Sincal, or others as appropriate ) to determine connection methods and suitability of various reinforcement options,
  • Complete Investment Appraisals and Technical Approval documents as required,
  • When required, be the Customer's interface point within Planning and attend new business customer meetings with Commercial/Delivery as appropriate,
  • Prioritise and prepare Technical Approval documents for network identified for conversion from 10kV to 20kV ? When required, be the interface point on TSO (transmission system operator) interactions for connection agreements for new customer stations,
  • Assess the impact of new connections with a disturbing aspect on existing networks and make recommendations to mitigate the impact.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential

  • Experience of networks engineering and transmission/distribution network planning and design,
  • Good understanding of Distribution Network technologies, sufficient to identify and assess the suitability of configurations for proposed connections,
  • Experience of analysing networks using power systems modelling software to determine network parameters under various conditions,
  • Ability to assess multiple options, assess technical acceptability including constructability (in consultation with internal experts) and rank based on cost,
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and IT skills,
  • High level of commitment and excellent interpersonal skills,
  • A commercial mind-set and customer focus,
  • Ability to act independently and take initiative, as well as strong teamwork skills,
  • Experience of specific analysis software, in particular Synergi but other tools also relevant (eg Sincal, PowerFactor, Sincal, etc.,),
  • Experience of working with typical Networks customers (eg generators, industrial load customers, developers, consultants, etc.),
  • Experience of working within distribution operator or transmission operator organisations in planning function, or as a consultant
