AS400 Programmer / Engineer

Russell & Bromley is a retailer, with a 147 year heritage, specialising in luxury shoes and accessories for women, men and children. We have over 40 stores and a strong online presence. We are looking for someone to join our team for 12-18 months to manage our AS400 system as our current post holder will shortly be retiring.

Our AS400 system sits at the heart of the organisation in terms of managing, storing, processing and providing information across the whole of our business.

The main purpose of the role is to support AS400 software applications developed in the business along with providing information to finance and payroll systems and generating reports for the senior leadership team, stock, payroll, purchasing and other departments. The role will look after the maintenance, reporting and development of the AS400, working with other IT colleagues on providing data to the business.

You will be actively engaging with colleagues in the IT team and participating in business projects where AS400 and data is involved, identifying requirements and developing solutions to best fit the business and the system.

On the technical side you will be responsible for designing programming modifications, developing and supporting programmes and providing solutions to problems and suggest alternatives when technical roadblocks are encountered.

From you, we are looking for proven experience of IBM AS/400-iSeries and solid experience of all aspects of RPG programming (RPG III RPG IV RPGLE-FreeFormat), strong experience in SQL & AS400 QUERY, CL programming and FTP scripting. Outside of the AS400 then good Office365 experience is valued and experience of working with MS Dynamics 365 would be beneficial.

From a personal perspective, you will be a good communicator to both technical and non-technical audiences and be able to work with other departments, suppliers, contractors and remote teams to execute planned implementations. You will be able to prioritise and handle multiple tasks and to analyse and understand business processes and make improvements to the supporting systems. In terms of project management skills then an understanding of Agile and other methodologies is useful and well as an interest in identifying new technology tools and acquiring the skills needed to make productive use of these tools.

In return we can offer a competitive salary and benefits package including a contributory pension, 25 days holidays plus bank holidays and a significant staff discount on Russell & Bromley products.

Closing date for applications is 22 nd March 2020
