The successful candidate will have the following:
. Higher education (Master) with a technical/engineering/big data/artificial intelligence background.
. Communication skills and experience with teamwork and project-oriented working.
. Experience in logistics and transport sector
. Relevant experience in the use of AIS data for the acquisition of analytical insights and building forecasting models
. Knowledge and experience with building forecasting and simulation models in the context of shipping.

. Knowledge of MS Office Packages
. Knowledge of the different Project Management facets (costs, timing, coordination, planning, estimates)
. Thorough Knowledge of Business Engineering; being able to propose business solutions that are a good combination of Business and Technology knowledge
As a data scientist you are responsible for developing algorithms to find non-trivial relationships in large data sets in the areas of existing/new data valorization, IoT, Risk Management and Operational Excellence.
You will make use of your statistical knowledge and you need to understand how statistical work can be applied in the clients context of everyday life.
After all, your algorithms must really provide an answer to a business need.
An example is the market intelligence department that looks at constantly changing contexts to uncover new opportunities for the client, or a certain connection that is found between port traffic and infrastructure in order to optimize value-based maintenance activities. An optimum must be found between the speed of generating insights and the quality of the associated recommendations.
You will be a proactive discussion partner for the business when it comes to exploring the possibilities of data science.
Not everything that is scientifically possible is equally relevant to the business. Conversely, it is also true that not every business question can be translated into an algorithm.
Supervising and conducting data experiments - supported by other departments and DI teams (eg NLP, ComputerVIsion, Prescriptive/Predictive modelling, Learning algorithms, ML)
Proactive knowledge sharing with other DI teams on acquired insights and associated algorithms - based on 'what if 'thinking and an ideal sparring partner for (junior) data engineers within DI.
Supporting and implementing the provision of algorithms/models on internal/external platforms (eg NxtPort) - and thus proactively contributing to successful PoA use cases
The successful candidate is responsible for:
. Taking on a Data Ambassador role for the company - through business partnering with other departments (including CDIO team)
. Setting up, supervising and conducting data experiments and use cases for the client - using Data Science tools.
. Visualize and document insights and relationships of large data sets, and translate this into stakeholders with insight, action and advice.
. Collaboration with other department (s) and pro-active contributions to increase data maturity.
. The cooperation with Dev/Ops teams for the operational aspects of data (eg setting up and providing insight into data SLAs)
. Proactively identify opportunities to simplify business processes and achieve efficiency through effective data management.
The Senior Data Scientist works closely with other departments and internal CDIO team (eg lead designers, data warehouse and BI/Analytics specialists) and is a proactive Data Ambassador for the company.
